Mike Huckabee drummed up some publicity for his presidential run Thursday by attacking Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman. The former Arkansas governor's celebrity target of choice might seem like an odd one, perhaps he was really taking a low blow at someone else.
Politicians taking on celebrities to get media attention is nothing new. Former Vice President Dan Quayle attacked musician 2Pac Shakur when he was up for re-election in 1992, blaming the singer's album "2pacalypse Now" for influencing a man to kill a Texas Ranger. Fortunately, Mike Huckabee's attack on Natalie Portman isn't quite so serious.
During a radio interview, he complained that the actress is setting a bad example by having a baby out of wedlock, calling her out for glamorizing the idea of out-of-wedlock children and pointing out that most unwed mothers aren't living such glamorous lives, stating, "Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care."
During an interview with Us Magazine, his attempt to clarify his statement was little more than a plug for his book, as he went on to say, "These people should read my book and they would know what I said instead of what some left-wing partisans are attempting to put forth." So is Mike Huckabee's attack on Natalie Portman just a way to increase book sales?
This is very possible, but it's also possible that he was slyly taking a dig at one of his potential presidential opponents. After all, Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol had a child out of wedlock as a teenager....

I’ll take “Looking for Palin-Bashing where none exists” for $400, Alex.
Natalie Portman is a Bush hater and a lib.
Ditto. May you get a Daily Double.
A pardoner of serial killers has NDB criticizing the moral choices of others.
...and a skank.
I meant Gov. Palin, not Miss Portman.
Did he mention Bristol? I didn’t see that.
Making stuff up to suit a perceived slight only shows you think this is a problem for the candidate.
If this had never have been mentioned I would never associate Natalie Portman with Palin’s daughter.
How ridiculous. Is Huckster supposed to say having kids out of wedlock is great?
His boy must have quit killing dogs.
First of all, I’m not the author of this article. You do know how FR works, right? Secondly, do you PDSer’s have a roster or schedule? “Okay, pissant and indylindy have News/Activis, PSYCHO-FREEP and rabscuttle385, you handle Bloogers & Personal...”
Sut up Huck... really... You have ZERO chance of being president, OK?
Now take your routine back to Mayberry- Ange and Barney Fife are waiting for you down at the barbershop with Gomer and Aunt Bea
Bravo to you, too, sir. Its high time someone told these self-appointed Geheimegewindepolizei what for.
This low rent Elmer Gantry, this brainless boob, this incompetent pile of pig excrement actually thinks people would STARVE without his precious allmighty welfare state?
What is the number one nutrition related problem of the “poor” in America again?
Like Huckabee they are disgusting fat bodies! Tubs of useless lard. One is actually MORE likely to be obese if they are “poor” in America than if they are not.
Thank you.
Sounds like most of the MSM.
I swear to God, if I have to watch a campaign full of the RINO’s Romney and Giuliani, the cheese ball Huckabee, the wack job Paul, the I divorced my wife while she recovered from cancer in the hospital Gingrich, I will (figuratively speaking of course) blow my brains out.
