Sharia compliant junk mail

I just returned from my mailbox, on this beautiful sunny day, with a stack of junk mail in my hand. In the pile is a four color mailer advertising home refinancing, with a photo of a couple on one side. The woman is dressed in a head scarf, which I took to be an interesting approach to a demographic group, and one I had not seen before.

Refinance and Save! the card announced. I flipped the card over and learned that hundreds of customers had lowered their monthly payments with Sharia-Compliant relief. Recognized by CNN, PBS, and AlJazeera.

The company, Guidance Residential, has a Sharia compliance board, headed by Yusuf Talal DeLorenzo, who according to Muslim-Investor.com is a noted Islamic financial advisor.

I don’t know Mr. DeLorenzo, or his company. Perhaps he’s a decent person. But I am offended by the notion of instituting Sharia law in any shape or form on these shores. I fired off two emails to the company, wondering if perhaps they also supported ritual killings, in compliance with Sharia law, or forced female genitalia mutilation. I reminded the company that we are a constitutional republic which holds no allegiance to any organized religion. That our laws are voted on, enacted, and enforced by leaders chosen by the citizens of these United States, and that these laws are supreme in the land. I told them these laws do not take a secondary status to religious doctrines.

I suggested to the company that if they want to live in a country where Sharia law is enacted, then perhaps they should leave this one.

My you held your rage very nicely. I don’t know that i could have done the same.

I returned my new Foley’s CC because they sent all info in Spanish and I’m afraid I wasn’t very nice about it.

It brings up visual memories.

The reason they have special sharia loan companies is because Moslems are not allowed to enter into traditional Western style financial arrangements. It's one of the reason people are poverty striken in Muslim countries)unless they get oil money.

For instance: (From a muslim website)

Central to Islamic finance is the fact that money itself has no intrinsic value, it is simply a medium of exchange. Each unit is 100% equal in value to another unit of the same denomination and you are not allowed to make a profit by exchanging cash with another person. A Muslim is not allowed to benefit from lending money or receiving money from someone.

This means that earning interest (riba) is not allowed. To comply with these rules, interest is not paid on Islamic savings or current accounts or applied to Islamic mortgages.

This is one reason Muslims work with communists. I'm also pretty sure they can't buy insurance, it's considered gambling. So a woman (unless they do the Islamic creative financing thing) is out of luck if her husband dies. She's dependent on alms and the male members of her family.
