I admit there were doubts in those early days about whether I could make it through all of February without invoking her name. The tremors and sweats were manageable. But I couldn't overcome an abiding terror:
What if Sarah Palin announced her presidential bid, right in the middle of my self-imposed, month-long moratorium?
The turning point came when I watched Fox News on Feb. 11. A banner flashed on the screen: "FOX NEWS ALERT." Dramatic music played. Stuart Varney, in for Neil Cavuto, delivered the bulletin: "Sarah Palin has issued a tweet."
This was news?
It was then that I realized I had nothing to worry about. Palin was not going to make real news in February, or, most likely, at any other time. At most, she was going to make noise - enough to earn that $1 million Fox pays her a year....

“What kind of a guy name is Dana?”
Hey, now - I’ve been pissed at my parents for 53 years over that one.
Colonel, USAFR
That's right.
Sorry, this user name is alive and well, and has never been banned from FR. This is also the first time anyone has accused me of "trolling the Palin threads." Sounds to me like you are confused.
Regardless, you are way off base here.
I'm just calling it the way I see it. If you disagree with me, or have a counter point to me, you should make in now, rather than pinging in a whole bunch of other people to help you. I assume that your intent is to bury and discussion of this topic. My deduction from the available information is that she can't win the nomination. If she gets involved at all, it will inevitably be as a third party candidatate who will doom us to four more years of Obama. If you're smart enough, tell me why I'm wrong.
That of a tea-bagging, America-hating homosexual journo-list?
What kind of a guy name is Dana?........................................... Maybe mommy didn’t want to go with Diana??
I didn’t read this column, but I am LOL at the fact that’s he’s my height. Hilarious.
I’m guessing Dana made it through the month with the Newsweek cover of Sarah Palin and a pretty busy hand.
No other way to put this: You suck at creative personal attacks.
Not really sure who you are with either, or what gave you the idea that I would have a problem with a "President Palin." Should she win the nomination, I will gladly vote for her. My point, which you seem to have had some difficulty with, was that she won't be running because she knows she can't win our broken primary system. The states that have the most delegates are the ones she polls the worst in (NY, Cal, NE). Meanwhile, we'll be losing those states anyway. This is a realistic point clearly not mean as some sort of insult to the Governor. As a matter of fact, it's sort of obvious that it factored into her thinking when she stepped down to take a job with FOX. The best way she can serve the Conservative cause over the next two years is by rallying her base to drive the stake through Obama's heart while collecting seven figure paychecks in the private sector.
I like her. I admire her. I think she's smart. I think she's an engaging speaker. I would have voted for her over McCain. I don't see a way for her to win the 2012 Republican nomination, and I think she would agree with me.
Now don't make me get my insect repellent.
Hey, you’re being a little tough there, Teach. They can’t all be winners, but I’d give it at least a B. Why don’t we both agree to let the process play out and see what happens? That way we can put our efforts toward constructive ends.
Sorry, can't do that either, for reasons I pointed to in an earlier post to this thread. All successful politicians share one vital quality/flaw: An unblushing ego. Palin suffers no deficit there. There is a legitimate concern that she may start believing her own hype on this website (which she admits to visiting regularly) and elsewhere and allow herself to be drafted into a third party run. Nothing, including a Giuliani/Romney/Huckabee/Gingrich/Jeb/Trump (insert your own RINO here) could be more disastrous for our shared cause, as the only possible outcome from this scenario is an unfettered Obama Executive Branch over 5+ lame duck years. Thus, this website, more than anywhere else, demands a conscience whispering "Thou Art Mortal," in the Governor's ear, lest she be tempted into doing something really stupid.
Still a free country. So, to you be your way and to me be mine.
The country may be free, but it sounds to me like you don't really understand how this website works. I stated an opinion. You disagreed. I provided evidence for that opinion. You suggested that we agree to disagree. As of this moment, there are less than a handful of states that pollsters (event the conservative ones like Luntz and Rove) see Palin definitely winning. There are several big states (with most of the delegates and most of the Rockafeller crowd) that they see Palin definitely losing. Therefore, she can't win. That's why she's deflecting questions about her running. As long as she stays away from a third party run, I'm a fan of hers. Should she change her mind, she will set the conservative cause back 35 years.
Who knows, she may re-vist the idea of running in four or eight years. She is a young woman, and there's a lot to like about her.
And lose the primaries. Which gets us back to my original point...
Maybe, maybe not. We’ll know after the primaries are over. I do know that if the direction of our country isn’t turned around, and soon, it will all be a moot point.
I'd like to see Dr. Frankenstein reanimate Ronald Reagan and run him for president, but I know that's not going to happen. Zombie Reagan would kick Obama's ass in a debate, and then feast on his scrambled liberal brain.
