We checked out the results of several chili contests and were surprised to see that Hormel canned chili scored high in several of them, even winning one.
You just open a can of Hormel chili and heat it.
I think the canned stuff is all right for slathering on a hot dog but not to serve as real chili.
Here a recipe for some real stuff that almost as easy as heating up a can of chili and would win a Texas contest. Try it. It a real treat on a snowy winter day.

Not to whine because I don’t know what real cold is in Tallahassee. But I could have used a great chili recipe a month ago.
Not looking forward to the 90s either, I get a break from a $300 electric bill this month.
I remember those machines in the navy!
We had beer machines too!
*cue ominous music*
I'm thinking alcohol played a vile role in those selections!
ROTFLMAO! We actually had a beer machine at the base pool, and we would go down late at night when everything was shut down.
They had this wonderful old, crittery guy named “Pop” Soule, who was the lone security on the base. He manned the main gate all day long, and at night, he drove around in his truck on the dirt perimeter road.
You might not see Pop for an hour or two, so we would spend those hours with our skinny little adolescent arms up those machines to our biceps. I do believe we actually got a beer or two out of them on occasion, but it was hard, grueling work. Your hand would be frozen.
It was a lot easier to put in 50c LoL
Homer Simpson. Ya gotta love it!
Haven’t tried Hormel - but canned Steak N Shake chili is pretty good.
I have never had a good canned chili, but I will admit that Wendys is satisfying.
He’s a personal Hero LoL
1 pound ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 package of chili mix
Chili with ice cream. Trust me.
They come in this sauce, It looks like ketchup, It tastes like ketchup, but Brother! It AINT Ketchup!!
I used to make chili without tomatoes, but I find that a can of the diced tomatoes with jalapenos add quite a bit. If I need filler I add chopped carrots rather than beans.
The chipotles in Adobo sauce are sneaky hot. I like it with a whole can, but if I’m serving it to anyone else, I only use half.
Pendery’s (dot com) has a great selection of pre-mixed chili powder blends. They also have a great selection of ground chili peppers if you want to mix your own. I buy it in one pound bags. It never gets stale at my house.
Cincinnati style:
Skyline
Goldstar
Dixie
Camp Washington
Price Hill
Empress
Personally like the 6-way from Dixie Chili. Anti-vampire, anti Mother-in-law style, but Skyline is the standard.
Combine all in pot or crock pot and cook on low for 2-3 hours until onions are thoroughly cooked. Serve with oyster crackers.
*Oregano de la Sierra - dried flowers of Bee Balm (Monarda menthaefolia)
Together at the same time? Like Reeses?
I always use dice tomato and chilis.
ALWAYS
Carrots! WTF!!??
I’ve used my own chili as a topping over ice cream. Even better with chocolate ice cream. When I’m at wendy’s I get a frosty with the chili and alternate spoonfuls.
I’ve since found out that a lot of people eat these together.
I’ve had chili with carrots. Adds a little texture and sweetness.
