Jesse Jackson got early Secret Service protection when he ran for President. Obama asked for and got early Secret Service protection in the last election. They should do the same for Sarah Palin. Do I think there is a great risk to her life? Yes I do. I used to worry about it a little. But now I worry about it a lot. Top people in the Democratic Party and the media were quick to call Palin a racist during the last election. And that planted the seeds of hate into the minds of a lot of people. Then again after the shooting in Tucson, they said Palin was responsible. And the threats to Palin went though the roof. Sarah Palin had to increase protection for her and her family. The people who tried to blame Sarah Palin for the shootings in Tucson were idiots. Some of them were idiots. I think some were intentionally trying to provoke violence against Sarah Palin.

Not to offend the Secret Service (and because I live near Wasilla) I believe her current security is way better.
The SS operates in a climate (pun intended)far removed from what they train for here in Alaska, the locals can spot the out of the ordinary in a heartbeat, Alaska may be large but also is ranked around 47th in population.
The reason nobody has heard anything about any incident against Sarah Palin up here is because its a Shoot, Shovel and Shutup situation.
I remember an incident years ago when a young man fell through a glacier, they spent a month trying to find his body, they flew in a special robotic camera device to go down the melted ice tunnel under the glacier, never found anything.
Maybe in the future when global warming melts the glacier completely he may show up, like in a couple hundred years.

If Mrs Palin keeps on doing exactly what she is now and does not run yet the threat level against her remains where it is or even rises should she still get protection from the Secret Service?
No, because she is a private citizen and she can afford her own security (one that will be loyal to her and not answerable to a government bureaucrat.
