Herbert: Egypt Si! Yanqui No!
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

To the streets, Americans! We need to make the US more like . . . Egypt!

That's the thrust of Bob Herbert's hysterical rant in today's New York Times. His notion is that while democracy is flourishing in Egypt, it is weakening here to the extent that [emphasis added]: "we’re in serious danger of becoming a democracy in name only."

Money in politics is Herbert's predictable culprit, with "the endlessly egregious Koch brothers" serving as his bogeymen-in-chief. So where does Herbert head for a solution? Why, to the late, self-described democratic socialist historian Howard Zinn, of course. Here's how Herbert concludes his call to action [emphasis added]:

Bob Herbert thinks democracy’s in better shape in Egypt than here. Ping to Today show list.

Can someone post a picture of the 9-12-09 rally in DC?

To Missus Herbert, it appears that military rule = democracy.

Dirty little secret conveniently minimized by the leftist media.

First days of the ‘protests’ Hotel gift shops looted, Cairo Museum broken in to. Looted, artifacts destroyed including mummies. Demonstrators rampaging thru the hotels in the square banging on doors, looting everything in sight.
Demanding thousands of dollars from tourists for bus rides to the airport.

Pictures this morning of the tons of garbage left behind in the square by the peaceful muslim demonstrators. Mountains of trash everywhere.

Just like the tea partiers, just like the Sept. 12 crowds right?

Be nice if Herbert took himself off to live in a muslim country, any one at all will do.

Howard Zinn: “If there is going to be change, real change, it will have to work its way from the bottom up, from the people themselves.”

Evan Coyne Maloney has a perfect solution to this seemingly intractable problem.

“democracy” has become the new code word for “socialism”. Check out “DemocracyNow” or several other “democracy” labeled publications. They use “democracy” as a term that means allow the majority to elect a totalitarian that confiscates any private wealth in the country and distributes it to the “people.”

LOL: perfect! I’ve often felt the same way. Bob’s pieces are incredibly predictable. He’s the ultimate ‘green’ columnist, endlessly recycling his work ;-)

Lefties like Herbert all think the same:

"We can't have people talking freely and not supporting Our Dear Leader's wonderful sociali er progressive plans for the country's future. Everyone must get in line and obey The Great Spreader."

There's no such thing as democratic socialism. Thanks governsleastgovernsbest.

“democracy” has become the new code word for “socialism”.

No new code here....The Founding Fathers understood the difference between a Democracy and a Republic...

Democracy= mob rule...(2 wolves and a chicken voting on lunch)

Republic= Rule of law ( chicken may be in the minority, but rule of law protects him from being lunch)

"we’re in serious danger of becoming a democracy in name only."

We are not now, never have been and one hopes, never will be a democracy. We are a Republic. The greater risk is becoming a republic in name only much as Egypt has been.

The US of A is not, and never was, a democracy.
