February 13 Former Republican Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts formally and officially announces his candidacy.
The Year 2007!
What a loser retread!
Palin can't lose the this RINO!
Anyone care to translate?
Sorry, Palin can’t lose to this RINO!
Republican Voters will NEVER elect a RINO.
The will elect the real deal Constitutional Conservative like Sarah Palin (whose birthday is today).
That's all well and good. I still have no idea what you're talking about. Is Romney planning to announce on Sunday? Do you have a link?
Feb, 13th, 2007 is when he ran last time, it’s old news and so is Romney!
Hugh Hewitt just got a tingle up his leg.
Trump is looking better and better.
Oy. Please, no.
Right...that's all true...I guess I was trying to figure out whether this post was anything other than a random thought. Apparently not.
The crickets were chirping too loud.
Are there still Mittwitt supporters on FR or did they get "purged"?
His massive ego won’t let him escape his vain imaginings.
That pancake needs some butter and syrup on it.
It just worries me that Kathryn Lopez from National Review is so pro-Romney. Catholics and Mormons are NOT natural allies against Evangelical voters! Splitting the religious vote only works to the advantage of atheists. We can argue religion later, or here on FR, but for pity’s sake, Romney is NOT the second coming of JFK!!!
Do the words "John McCain" or "Bob Dole" ring a bell?
Why should you be suprised? The Frank Luntz focus groups are the clueless mushy middle who has a hard time finding their bare butt in a dark room with both hands. These are exactly the type of people who bought ObaMao and think they can remedy their mistake with a RINO. Real conservatism is just too scary for this clueless bunch.
Backlash and misplaced sympathy against these, more than anything else, have kept the Mittster from sinking to his natural single digit support level.
Let me be the first to predict that if the enemedia decides that Mitt is their best chance in 2012, they will do their best to magnify the sympathetic backlash which is necessary for him to secure the nomination and, once he does so, they will then do their best to make Mormons look like people from another planet.
That's the way the left works.
I have to slightly disagree. I don’t believe that the ‘circular firing squads’ are mostly an Evangelical phenomenon. Ms. Lopez’s Catholic defensiveness leading her to support Romney over, say, Huckabee is an example. (No support of the Huckster intended, just saying.) My point was not to confuse the religious with the political.
Since most Mormon proselytizing is aimed at nominal Christians, agreement on politics can be used as a hook to try to gain members. This is a religious problem, not a political one. Catholics, who do not usually see local parishes as mission fields, tend to overlook the ‘sheep-stealing’ tendencies of their Mormon political friends. Evangelical churches do in fact see each congregation as fighting with the world for new members, or at least new attendees, every Sunday; they see Mormon missionaries as a direct threat.
This suspicion bleeds over into politics, and you’re right, the anti-Romney forces are often Evangelical. But that doesn’t mean that Catholics would support him if a Catholic champion arose as a counterweight to Mitt and Huck (I have heard Justice Scalia mentioned.) Again, we should avoid mixing principles and personalities: none of us believe that eternal truths are determined by popular vote.
