Finally it was completed- a fine scale model of the S.S. America. And since then, Reagan has made a model of the S.S. Challenge, a C-2 freighter. He plans to continue building model ships...

The article at the link recounts how Ronald Reagan hand made an exact scale model of the SS America and other ships. This is a little known facet of the man. As a model maker myself I was surprised and pleased to find this little item.

It is revealing to show how a man who could use his hands, who could actually DO something, was practical enough to realize how government should actually facilitate the producers in society, not vilify them. Very different than most politicians who can;t so ANYTHING except take from others and manipulate the masses.

I have excerpted this because I am not sure of the rules on this source. I am NOT the blog owner, so don't go there!

You know what. THIS is exactly why we started seeing all those Obama=Reagan stories a few months ago. They knew there was about to be a flood of 100th birthday stories.

They glommed on immediately, to try to AVOID the inevitable comparisons everyone would all be making, had those stories not tried to convince people that Obama secretly “admires” Reagan.

My family sailed home to the US from England in 1959 on the SS United States, which was the sister ship of the SS America. Even all these many years later I still remember the voyage and getting up at 4 am the day we sailed into NY Harbor to be able to see the Statue of Liberty.........Happy 100th Birthday Mr. President!
