As expected, all 47 Senate Republicans voted Wednesday to repeal the sweeping health law, but no Democratic members joined them, leaving the GOP well short of the 60 needed to pass. But the bill, which easily cleared the GOP-led House last month, forced vulnerable Senate Dems to once again back the controversial legislation.
Meanwhile, the Senate voted 81-17 to roll back the much-hated 1099 tax-reporting requirement. The obscure ObamaCare provision would have required companies, starting in 2012, to file a 1099 tax form every time they make cumulative purchases of $600 or more from any business.

Don’t be calling unconstitutional too soon! McCain Feingold was unconstitutional as well but SCOTUS upheld that!
Never say NEVER!
James Madison said, “Liberty lies in the hearts of men and women; when it dies there, no constitution, no law, no court can save it; no constitution, no law, no court can even do much to help it.”
A large number of democrats just signed their own political death warrants for 2012. We knew we weren’t going to get to 60 votes, so this is a blessing in disguise.
Brown (D-OH)
Casey (D-PA)
Manchin (D-WV)
Nelson (D-FL)
Nelson (D-NE)
Tester (D-MT)
Webb (D-VA)
McCaskill (D-MO)
Eight who may have done in their 2012 hopes. Let’s hope so. Ben Nelson, after having badly damaged yourself last year on the heels of the Cornhusker Kickback, I’d have thought you’d learn your lesson by now. Apparently not.
I thought the judge was allowing them to continue moving ahead on it during their appeal process.
It is a mistake to overturn the 1099 provision. Why make this stinking heap palatable?
I wouldn't count on that. This MARXIST regime will do ANYTHING to confiscate as much loot from the American people as humanly possible.
It's time to stomp a mud hole in the ass of the IRS and get rid of this criminal enterprise once and for all.
You're taking power away from We The People and giving it to career government bureaucrats. How exactly do you NOT see that as "big govenrment"? Some of these state governments are bigger and more powerful than the governments of entire nations. Is the California state legislature your idea of limited responsible government? Limited government is based on the concept that government only exists to do what the people are not capable of doing for themselves. I can choose my representation in Washington without big brother weighing in on the matter and picking someone to lord over me, while giving me no say in the matter. .
>> That is certainly not what the Founders wanted. <<
None of the 27th amendments are what the founders wanted, that's why they were added later to AMEND what was originally written in the Constitution. Should we also repeal the term limits amendment, since it's not what the founders envisioned? How about the amendment banning slavery? How about the one guaranteeing a nationwide right to keep and bear arms? None of that was in the constitution the founders ratified in 1787.
>> Who was President then ? Woodrow Wilson, Americas first dictator. <<
No dispute there. You'll have to take that up with the freepers who keep insisting the Democrats back then were the "conservative" party. But that doesn't mean absolutely everything that passed during that era was automatically evil. Are you against allowing voters to have the power to recall politicians? It's also a product of the progressive era. So is the idea of having party primaries to select party nominees, rather than state party conventions. All were proposed back in 1913. This is as silly as claiming to support the gay agenda to repeal DODT because the original bill had been pushed and signed into law by Clinton.
See tagline.
Who says they are “American”? Ya never know anymore.
I wouldn’t be too hasty on the 17th, though I’ve been a proponent of its repeal myself.
Think: would the Internet now be taxed if senators were appointed by their states?
I watch this political theatre today.
The Dummies tried two amendments to weaken the Repeal effort.
One was approved which was the 1099. Then Levin tried some BS. It was voted down.
Then as the McConnell Repeal Amendment came up. Reid stopped it in it’s track and they voted it down. Reid said they had numerous amendments from the WH that they would submit tomorrow.
The Dummies are trying to waterdown their own HCR Bill to keep it Law (saving Zero’s Legacy), yet keeping the wolves (American Voters)at bay.
The Dummies are a dirty bunch and have turned the Congress into a massive house of snakes.
Excellent analysis and correct. The Hydra isn’t dead if it still has a head.
The only guarantors for the United States Constitution are the people themselves. We absolutely cannot count on the SCOTUS to do the right thing.
Never forget Kelo.
“It has been ruled unconsitutional and void.”
Not in all jurisdictions. It still is active law in much of the country.
I'll stand with you. They better never darken my doorstep. Just sayin.
And of course these Senators also represent States that are part of the lawsuit, and they voted against the wishes of their States too.
Harkin (D-IA)
Murray (D-WA)
Cantwell (D-WA)
Begich (D-AK)
Udall (D-CO)
Bennett (D-CO)
Landrieu (D-LA)
Levin (D-MI)
Stabenow (D-MI)
Reid (D-NV)
Conrad (D-ND)
Johnson (D-SD)
Oh the irony! Look at all those Democrats voting against the wishes of their States.
I’m going with the Founders. The 17th Amendment has helped destroy federalism. Some big name Conservatives that agree with me: Glenn Beck, Tony Blankley, Joe Miller...
Sure some amendments were necessary, but the 16th and 17th have landed us in the situation we find ourselves in now.
Let’s be honest: There’s a better chance of Keith Olbermann becoming an actual journalist than there is of seeing the 17th Amendment being repealed. It’s not going to happen any time soon.
Ya recken Manchin’s got some splainin to do in 2012 to the voters of West Virginia? After all, he ran on platform to repeal Obamacare. And he just had his big chance to prove he wasn’t lying. What Manchin DID just prove is that ALL DimRats are lying Commie Bastards! Hope the people of West Virginia take note!
