Overpopulation: Should we take extreme measures?
James Cameron's Avatar Wikia ^ | January 27, 2010

There are too many of us already, and we must not let our numbers grow even further beyond what Earth's resources can provide. If we want to keep/improve our current standard of living, those who are able should take precautions. A few of the more extreme ideas (i.e. killing off "unnecessary" members of a population), while theoretically efficient, seem elitist and unnecessarily drastic and cruel from a human standpoint.

Then there are people who believe in the ideal that either nature or an all-powerful being will eventually "balance out" our growing numbers (Eywa?). Yes, people die every day, but lives taken by disease epidemics, natural disasters, or wars should not be thought of as expendable just because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. In spite of the vast number of natural selection believers, we humans can take advantage of a very simple option to keep our numbers in check.

The total world population will reach about 9 billion in the year 2042, up from the documented 6 billion in 1999. Over 43 years, that's a 50% increase, or an additional 3 billion people. That's simply too many!

Some world governments presently have population limitation programs in place (China), or are developing new forms of contraception.

The human race can stop overpopulation at the source by not having as many children as we currently do. Some may consider this lowering of the planet's birth rate to be an extreme or even blasphemous idea, but many believe that it's exactly the kind of cautious and expeditious measure we need to take. Mathematically speaking, this reduction is certainly not a quick fix, but it is definitely more humane than selective euthanasia. Simply put, it focuses not on ending lives that already exist, but on creating lives less frequently.

I think it's almost becoming a necessity at this point. It's pretty evident by now that we've gone beyond a sustainable population....

James Cameron is the second-highest grossing film director of all time, behind Steven Spielberg. He is responsible for Avatar, Titanic, Terminator, Aliens, etc. This man's "thinking" influences the "thinking" of millions around the world. I find him malevolent, sinister and frightening. In short, evil. Wonder if he's ever heard about Paul Ehrlich's "The Population Bomb" overpopulation predictions, which turned out to be precipitous.

Hey James, why not put your money where your mouth is and blow your brains out, then I might be impressed with your commitment to the cause.

Translation of Cameron’s words: “There are just enough of us, but far too many of you.”

There are a couple of major reasons for this, James - 1) the west's welfare state and 2) Islam.

Better get cracking.

Where does Kevin Bacon stand on the issue? He’s in show business too.

[ There are too many of us already, and we must not let our numbers grow even further beyond what Earth's resources can provide. ]

Have no fear the progressives have planned liquidating a few billion of them in the future.. The Muslims have no idea of the kind of people they are dealing with.. The communists liquidated hundreds of millions in the last century..

The progressives will upgrade to BILLIONS soon..
Why not.. who is to STOP it?..

Most people will not even grasp or refuse to grasp what they have planned..
Stalin, Hitler and Mao layed the ground work for it all..
Liquidation on a scale decent people will not even consider..

Thats WHY?... it will and can happen..

Scientific speculation is inevitable...thereafter - the Earth’s population is in God’s hands.

There is anecdotal evidence for a decrease in more advanced “Western Society” birth rates. Women are having fewer children at later ages. Increased homosexual coupling (although gays themselves are adopting or having IVF with surrogates). Third World nations are probably in balance with disease and famine.

Like all other earth forms, man’s life expectancy, procreation & population is balanced by mass deaths (war and pandemics) followed by increased births (baby boomers).

We should all blindly obey the sayings inscribed on the Georgia Guidestones....

And worship those who want to kill off the excess population in thrid world countries....

[sarc]

People who think we have too many people should take themselves out first and lead by example, instead of leading by blathering...

That’s what I say. You want to reduce population? You first.

I’m in my early 50’s. I remember this argument from the 70’s. The world has zero sum resources and we’ll run out of them by the year 2000. The world will be WAY over populated. Here we are today and the same argument is being recycled with different dates. Same with the global warming crap, only it used to be global cooling that was going to kill us all. Oh, and the sun was going to blow up (in a few billion years), and so on and so forth.

Oh, and as a long time Arizona resident, I’ve heard since I was a kid that we would run out of water long before now and the water we did have couldn’t support the growing population of the state. Still have water and still have more and more people moving in all the time.

Why aren’t people paying attention? Why can’t they smell the BS? Incredible! Can people not discern evil any more?

Sacrifice your children and we will be blessed. Where did I hear that before?

If we want to keep/improve our current standard of living, those who are able should take precautions.

Setting aside the truly disturbing nature of his comments, I would point out that what he is suggesting is particularly un-PC given that Western birth rates are dropping so he is talking about population control primarily in third world and Muslim countries. I wonder if he knows that.

Overpopulation is not nearly as much of a problem as the misanthropy people like Mr. Cameron display.

Just think how much better humanity might be if insanely rich people like Cameron invested their time, energy, and resources into space exploration--making other planets habitable for humanity--instead of encouraging us to off ourselves.

I had a greenie telling me just a couple days ago how it was good that so many people had died in Haiti due the massive earth quake because we are over populated and mankind is killing the earth. It is very telling that our children are being indoctrinated by the left-wing to accept a genocide even as being necessary. There are many on the left who would today already sit back and accept it happening as long as it wasn’t them being murdered. I am also sure that much of the support for homosexuality by the left-wing also ties into this mindset that procreation is wrong. The attack by the left-wing on the traditional morality of our society is becoming more and more telling as to the motives of the left-wing. The left-wing ideology is sick, perverted, totalitarian, and evil.

Over population is a complete myth. A LEFT-WING MYTH. The earth is huge. Technology could overcome many of the problems we face in surviving as well. There is no evident problem of us being over-populated.
