f you havent heard of Amy Chua by now, youve been living under a rock. Chua is the author of Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, which is currently ranked #5 on Amazon, thanks to the enormous amount of media coverage her Wall Street Journal article generated.
I weighed in on the debate both in my last NewsReal post (where I point out the pitfalls of Chuas parenting style, not philosophy), as well as in the New York Post. I also spoke with Ms. Chua, who was so happy to read my Post article, entitled Why America needs tiger mom, that she sent it to her whole family. They love it, she said.
I can understand why they would, what with all the negative hoopla surrounding Chuas book. Amy Chuas book is about her personal journey as a mother the lengthy subtitle makes this clear though in the process she explains how the Chinese parent differently than the way we do here in the West.
One of the points she makes is that American parents (and teachers, for that matter) arent authoritative but wishy-washy and are overly concerned with childrens self-esteem. They churn out entitled kids who havent the slightest idea of what it means to work hard really, really hard. For this, Chua has received death threats.

SHe sounds like a really ood mom to me.
Until I read about Amy Chua, I never realized that my brown-haired, blue-eyed parents were actually Chinese in disguise. And I thank God for them.
But will the kids come out to be like autonomous without a soul and no sense of love, and no personality. I know many urban Asians like this. However, American kids are an intellectual disgrace.
I am officially so tired of Amy I could spit. Betcha anything she voted for Zerobama.

Tiger Mom (Left)
Tough love, it works great. You don’t do your kids any favor’s by letting them get away with things and being as she would put it, wishy washy.
I betcha the Tiger moms will raise robots that will go over to the Chinese side and act like state side Chicom agents when China starts gaining the upper hand - which is happening as we know it. These new Asian generation kids born here will eventually become loyal to a dominant Asian power. I knew Asian kids in the 1980s who belonged to a pan Asain / Japanese Christian church in NYC and most of them were anti Americans - lots of Tiger moms there.
Yeah whatever. When the third worlders become benevolent superpowers that hold most of the world patents and are on the cutting edge of everything then they can’t talk sh*t until then they need to just stfu.
“Tiger Mom” could have just as well been named “Raising Autistic Savants”. Sure, the Chinese kids can to tell you what PI is to the thousandth place but they can’t tell you the price of a candy bar.
Raising just one kid can’t be that hard. Try 4-8 kids, and home schooling them, like the great American moms.

She is right on the money here, sad to say. (Retired teacher, so I have seen so many examples of these youngsters.)
The kids today have no sense of love and no personality unless you think sex is love and being a ditzy slut is personality.
What do we get for 10 dollars? :)
HAHA, I love that movie!
Ood mom? Like this one? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ood
I think a large portion of the failures I have encountered through life in a large part is due to my living down to the negative exemplar that my Dad patterned into me.
My Dad told me the day before he passed away that he loved me (more than his own life) and was very proud of me but still I wish he had had more education and understanding.
