There has been several times in my life, when the trauma of a situation made it seem as though time had stopped. When in fact, time marched on without me. But for a period of time nothing was more important than the tragedy at hand.
When its a personal tragedy, normality is put on hold. Priorities change. The center of your world shifts, and the glue that holds your life together seems to be coming apart.
When it is a national tragedy, it is much the same. The news channels seem to care of nothing else. Pundits begin to spin their wares, and news anchors and commentators scramble to find someone new to interview. The news world essentially becomes a spinning top, ever spinningbut always in the same spot. It just keeps going around and around the same story. This time, with the Arizona shooting, the main story got distorted and warped the spin.
Within hours of the shooting, the leap of judgment was made that shooting was the result of all the heated controversyinflamed by the Right. Mostly of course, by Sarah Palin, which had used gun language when describing her political strategy.
Of course, we now know that this attempted assassination, which did in fact kill a judge, wasnt a result of political rhetoric. Six people died. With each death, a tragedy that cannot be fully felt by anyone other than those people who lost a part of their world. Their lives have been forever changed. Not by politics but by the cruel actions of an individual.
What we lost as a country was the ability to give silent reverence, and respectful support to the grief stricken families. There was no period of mourning. There was no waiting for word as to who or why. Instead while the gunshots were still ringing in their ears, their tragedy became just another useful crisis.
Without hesitation or caution, the Left seized the moment and fabricated a motive for the killer. It was do to all the hate speech, the constant vitriol spewing from the Right, they said. Talk radio, Fox News and cable commentary had created a murderous monster. Now, look what youve done, with all your hate and angry words.
Its often said, that in a time of crisis, true character is shown, heroes emerge and the yellow bellies of cowards are right side up for all to see. In this case, it was the leftist politicians and the mainstream media sticking out of their back pockets, that turned out looking like nothing more than second rate ambulance chasers.
They used individuals personal tragedy, and a national wound to promote their issues of gun control, silence their opposition and paint themselves as victims. This is the standard ploy of the Left whose motto is Never let a crisis go to waste.
Rahm Emanuel said it this way early in the Obama administration, Never let a serious crisis go to waste. What I mean by that is its an opportunity to do things you couldnt do before. What has the Left been trying to do that they couldnt do before?
Silence the Right.
With the advent of the Tea Party, the fierce opposition to their dream administration, the outpouring of distain for their health care overhaul and a vocal Sarah Palin, who has survived every one of their character assassination attempts, they have failed to make us shut up and let them have their way.
The truth is that it is they that have created their own worst nightmare. A public that has taken it upon themselves to act like Americans, not Europeans. We were birthed out of rebellion, with the slogan No King, but King Jesus. We come from a line of ancestors that has fought and died for Judeo-Christian values, used the power of the pen to make kings furious. We will not shut up.
We will vote. We will use our rights to free speech, and will defend them. The guns stay. The voices will remain at a pitch that will be heard from the grass roots to the top of Capital Hill. Were not going to shut up and play nice while you molest our national heritage, and allow you to exploit yet another crisis.
I kinda wish everyone would shut up.
Start with yourself.
Excellent piece.
Its a phony controversy. The attacks on Palin come every day, regardless of whatever else happens in the news. Change a few lines to make it apply to the current headline, and away it goes. Weather too hot? Not enough catsup on your fries? Someone knock over a convenience store in your neighborhood?
Its Palin. She’s everywhere.
I was thinking of that video as I was reading this. Thanks for posting it.
I can’t get enough of those Klaven on the Culture videos. The guy is awesome, and nails it well, and in an extremely entertaining way.
