Southland: TV’s Most Politically Incorrect Show?
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | January 18, 2011 | David Forsmark

I've written before that the current Tuesday night lineup might be the best night of television ever. Of course, that was when Justified was in the schedule, so give it another month.)

With ABC's V, about emotionless good looking alien invaders who want to seduce earthlings with promises of universal health care, green energy and peace (if they just give up those troublesome things like individualism and, oh yeah, their souls); TV's most politically sophisticated show The Good Wife; USA Network's utterly charming Catch Me if You Can ripoff, White Collar; FX's promising new boxing series, Lights Out; and possibly best of all, Southland, the cop show TNT picked up when NBC let it go in the 10PM Leno fiasco, Tuesdays can be frustrating for those without DVRs or On Demand. Southland is the televsion equivalent of reading a novel by the great Joseph Wambaugh, and the closest thing to a ride-along you can get in your living room.

And, because unlike on the Law and Order franchise, the cops talk like cops not like members of the ACLU-- and because the perps are more reflective of who commits violent crimes in real life (not corporate CEOs) --Southland may be TV's most politically incorrect show.

Southland is probably the best cop show since Homicide: Life on the Streets.

Yep, was happy when TNT picked it up. I don’t think I’ve seen an episode yet that wasn’t good.

I’m liking Human Target. Not particularly politically correct either.

Hi, Walter and all:

Southland is quickly climbing into the high strata of the best Cop Show ever written, Hill Street Blues.

Grittier than Homicide: Life On The Street and with fewer memorable bad guys than HBO's The Wire.

Southland excels in casting, writing and direction and is not afraid or ashamed to show their Uniforms and Detectives, warts and all. Which is why I think the show is growing in popularity

I've never been a big fan of Law & Order or its many spin-offs after Detective Max Greevey (the always under rated George Dzundza) died in the line of duty. Dumped Michael Moriarity as the DA and the franchise became unbelievably liberal and hyper PC.

Waiting with bated breath for the return of FX's excellent Justified. Until that time, Southland makes a great extra arrow to have in the entertainment quiver.

Jack.
