Reflections on Sarah Palin By Ed Koch
Yonkers Tribune ^ | January 17, 2011 | Ed Koch

Posted on 01/18/2011 5:01:56 AM PST by Virginia Ridgerunner

As I see it, in the current battle for public opinion Sarah Palin has defeated her harsh and unfair critics.

(snip)

Why do I defend Palin in this case? I don’t agree with her political philosophy: She is an arch conservative. I am a liberal with sanity. I know that I am setting myself up for attack when I ask, why did Emile Zola defend Dreyfus? Palin is no Dreyfus and I am certainly no Zola. But all of us have an obligation, particularly those in politics and public office, to denounce, when we can, the perpetrators of horrendous libels and stand up for those falsely charged. We should denounce unfair, false and wicked charges not only when they are made against ourselves, our friends or our political party but against those with whom we disagree. If we are to truly change the poisonous political atmosphere that we all complain of, including those who create it, we should speak up for fairness when we can.

(snip)

I repeat my earlier comment that she “scares the hell out of me.” Nevertheless, she is entitled to fair and respectful treatment. The fools in politics today in both parties are those who think she is dumb. I’ve never met her, but I’ve always thought that she is highly intelligent but not knowledgeable in many areas and politically uninformed. I don’t believe she will run for president in 2012 or that she would be elected if she did. But I do believe she is equal in ability to many of those in the Republican Party seeking that office.

for what it is worth...he was a vociferous opponent of late term abortion. called it infanticide.

like I said, for what it is worth....I do not agree with his first 2 trimester abortion stance. Some liberals are ready to abort at the time of birth and also infanticide...

so I guess he has made some strides toward ‘sanity’

She will not be silenced nor will she leave the heavy lifts to the men in her Party. She will not be falsely charged, remain silent, and look for others – men – to defend her. She is plucky and unafraid.

I repeat my earlier comment that she “scares the hell out of me.”

Geez, what IS this with Palin scaring the hell out of libs?

What are they afraid of?
That our country might actually become stronger and more respected?
That our free market economy might be revived?
That corruption and dirty politics might end, or even be called out in our government?
That we might drill for oil from our own reserves and end our dangerous dependence on foreign oil?
That women just might find themselves another role model besides Hillary/and other ultra left wing abortion-rabid harpies?
That Americans might get back to work and stop relying on the government for every little last thing?

For all the "Palin is unelectable" drones, the very fact that state-run media obsesses over her tells you who they fear.

You gotta ask yourself: "Why are they so afraid of her?"

The answer, of course, is because they know that she is eminently electable, and that her election would mark the beginning of the end of their authoritarian-socialist dreams.

ineluctable

Why does Sarah Palin scare him? What is it about her that frightens liberals?

Because they know she can expose them for the Commies that they are.

I believe what we are seeing with the Arizona tragedy is an unwillingness of the attacked to back down. This “out of character” response has the Left completely perplexed and has increased the intensity of their antagonism. They don’t realize it yet, but they’ve done significant damage to themselves.>

Also, all of the liberal policies have been or are being discredited:

1. The socialist economic policies have proven to be an utter failure

2. As the left ups its attacks on Israel and religion in general, more and more people are defending Judeo-Christian ideals and principles; Christianity is spreading as Islam is being hurt by its correlation to terrorism and Muslims.

3. Communism, socialism and totalitarianism (dictatorships) are being discredited because the lack of freedom and liberty stifles economic, social and technological achievement. Dictators steal from their own citizens. Dictators live in wealth while these same dictators allow their people to die of starvation, disease and poverty. There is no area of the world where this is immune from Latin America to South America, from Cuba to Africa, from Asia to Eastern Europe, from the Middle East to the Far East.

Yeah, why would he need to qualify his liberalism? He seems to imply that liberals are by default insane (which of course goes without saying), but he’s an exception.

And not just scares him, “scares the Hell” out of him.

And the Left points out the vitriolic rhetoric of the Right.

Conservative policies ALWAYS frighten Liberals. That is to be expected.

We don’t expect them to endorse the movement, but at least be respectful of our differing opinions.

I applaud Koch for that. I think he’s one of the few remaining honest brokers out there.

Crazy world where Sarah is being defended by Ed Koch and Alan Dershiwicz- and then maligned by an unnamed republican.

IMO, she should be RNC chairman for awhile, then serve a cabinet post for a republican president before running for president again.

She is very smart and young. Some time to work on her political chops would be good for her and the party. At some time in the future I would be happy to vote for her as president, but I’m not sure about 2012.

But then again, with the field, I may vote for her in 2012, time will tell.

Back to the subject, chicken blood will be spilled and hundreds of little Koch dolls will be pricked by needles because of his honesty.

I always enjoy Koch, even when/if I disagree with him. He’s always entertaining and doesn’t sink to radical-lib levels of slime in his discourse. He’s also funny which goes a long way with me.

I lived in New York when he was mayor and he was very good for the city. Kudos to him for liking Sarah.

Actually the phrase “a liberal with sanity” implies that msot other libs are not sane. If this is what Koch means, he is quite correct.

Koch’s liberal side scares the hell out of me, too. But I still like the guy.

I was agreeing with Ed up until those last sentences. I think that he “misunderestimates” her!
