I never knew that there was a constellation Ophrah.

There is one but it covers about half the sky , so we don’t notice it that much.

Oh, the “deemed” it, did they. IF, and it’s a big IF, the stars have any influence on human births, changing the names and dates of the signs does not change where the stars were aligned on the day of one’s birth.

What gives them the right to declare a new astrological sign? (Not that I believe in that stuff)

How does this affect the passing of the great year which has used 12 zodiac signs since well before the time of Ptolemy and Christ even? Are we actually in the age of Aquarius now or are we further back in the age of Pisces? I don’t think I care for this. It breaks with over 2,000 years of tradition.

And I ain’t changing!

I’ve been a Virgo for - well, many years. Now I’m suddenly a Leo? Leo is fine, but I just don’t feel like a Leo. What’s the story? The change probably applies to those born under the new Zodiac, say, in the last year. So I’m probably still Virgo. :-)

Here's a screen shot from my Starry Night software showing the position of Ophiuchus in the sky this morning with the "daylight" option off, so the sun is shown as a yellow spot on the green line of the ecliptic. The bright spot between Ophiuchus's feet is Venus. You can see that the ecliptic passes through Ophiuchus's feet and by appearances it is as much "on the zodiac" as Scorpius. Ophiuchus means "serpent wrestler" and the head and tail of the serpent are the constellations Serpens Caput and Serpens Cauda.
The ecliptic itself doesn't change its position in the sky. It is the celestial equator which precesses with the earth's axis, so this has nothing to do with the perennial controversy caused by the signs drifting away from the constellations as they appear in the sky.
I note that Ptolemy, in his astrological work TETRABIBLOS, attributes the significance of the signs to their correlation with the solstices and equinoxes, and separately mentions the influence of various stars in the zodiacal constellations and others, including Ophiuchus.
BTW, I noticed an astrology item on the TV news last night, and I suppose it was about this, although I didn't really catch it.

Sorry, I was born a Cancer and will always be a Cancer.
This new listing is a bunch of scatological nonsense.
