On Thursday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that they were surprised by the applause at the memorial pep rally on Wednesday for the victims of the Tucson shootings.
"I will say that I read the speech several times and thought that there wouldn’t be a lot of applause if any. I think many of us thought that. But I think there was a celebration, again, of the lives of those who had been impacted. Not just at that grocery store but throughout the country. And I think that, if that is part of the healing process, then that’s a good thing."
Oh really?
Then why was it printed on the Jumbotron? (pic at link)

That looks like a closed caption. Let’s keep the criticism on what really went amuck, such as the t-shirts and the booing of Governor Brewer.

That looks like closed-captioning, indicating that applause had occurred.
Obviously this was his campaign kick-off, since many "journalists" from all major "news" orgs were tweeting that morning saying exactly that.
But the jumbo-tron was probably for the deaf?
Were they asking for applause or was this simply a case of somebody transcribing what was actually happening in real time?
Because they lied.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the kiddies in this regime are “surprised” by their own shadows.
Why was this “memorial” held at a university? Why wasn’t the memorial held at a church?
Doesn’t Tucson have a cathedral?
Well done. Darn that pesky internet with photos to expose outright lies. I bet they even had plants in the audience to begin the cheers and applause and of course it was contagious.
Closed caption or pre-distributed script. Either way, it is easy to see how a very liberal college audience would read it as a request to clap. No wonder a lot of the clapping seemed ill-timed.
That definitely looks like close captioning. You’re being set up or you are setting yourself up. No need to go there.
They were surprised at the applause for a couple reasons. That so many people in the arena could read, seeing that the intellect level of anyone to go (and participate) to a pep rally funeral must be very low. It was a test and many people in the arena failed, that test was that they took their eyes off the great healer Obama to look at the jumbotron.
Headline should read:
Closed caption creates positive feedback loop for eager tools.
No Clergy at the pep rally?
Applause lines written into speeches?
