Tom Delay's Attorney Blames Tea Party for Jail Sentence (Leftist Spin Title)
Yahoo ^ | 01/13/2011 | William Tapscott, Yahoo! Contributor Network

On January 10, 2011, former Majority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, Tom Delay, was sentenced to three years in jail for his participation in a money laundering conspiracy. Now, his attorney blames the Tea Party, in part, for his conviction.

(snip)

DeLay's attorney, Dick DeGuerin, explained the Tea Party connection by saying, "We went to trial on the very day people across the country, voters, rebelled against politics." While DeLay presumably does not differ much ideologically from the Tea Party, their inconveniently timed uprising might have irritated liberal jury members, who took their wrath out on Delay.

Wow, can’t believe the detractors here. Yeah, his lib side is sad but this trial should have every conservative crying fowl. This whack job liberal prosecutor went after him on a technicality in the law. He was not judged by his peers, but by his enemies. As it stands, no conservative could get a fair trail in Travis county.

I believe it was his fault that Clinton wasn’t removed from office after impeachment. The house was supposed to deliver the articles of impeachment the next day. He held off for months giving the left time to spin it to “it’s all about sex”. I wrote him a letter demanding he send the articles over immediately and never got a reply.

Truthfully, he’s like a lot of them. He went to cash in. That said, I don’t think he’s guilty of this particular crime. What he did was not a crime.

This is a lawyer talking, he doesn’t care about anything but winning, they would sell their mother to get a win.

“I read this as the lawyer criticing the liberal jury, not the Tea Party movement; that the jury consisted of liberal members. Beware of lib media.”

I agree. If anything, the lawyer is blaming the liberal jury for letting their irritation at the Tea Party movement unfairly influence their decision against Tom DeLay.

"DeLay presumably does not differ much ideologically from the Tea Party"

The Tea Party stands defiantly against the type of crony capitalism we saw with the banking lobbyists in bed with their congressional accomplices.

DeLay was instrumental in making whores of most Republican congressmen with the johns located on K Street.

I'd say that the Tea Party and DeLay were on opposite sides of one of the major Tea Party issues.

This is Yahoo trying to bait the right into starting a disagreement among themselves.

That’s what I took from it too. The liberal jury took their anger out on Delay.

"This is Yahoo trying to bait the right into starting a disagreement among themselves."

I would hope that the right could all agree on at least a few things like the 2nd Amendment and that DeLay is human scum.

But I guess I'm being too optimistic there.

No, he really isn’t blaming the Tea Party. He is essentially saying that the liberal jury members took out their anger at the Tea Party movement by recommending jail time for Delay.

"Exactly! I feel an appeal coming on"

Was the jury not a representative group of DeLay's peers? Not enough whores, criminals, and lying cheats in the jury pool?

When all of the Democratic human scum are in jail, them we'll talk.

At the time, Majority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, Tom Delay pushed through more spending and big government bills than the Democrats could manage to do.

He should go to jail for that.

He’s blaming the liberal jury, plain and simple. Liberals get angered over anything, Tea Party included. Liberals will always have someone to blame for their actions, Tea Party or no Tea Party. Anyone who didn’t learn that in the past few days is an idiot.

Apparently there was enough there for the demrats to get a hook into DeLay. He played the DC games and got burned. We all know he did nothing more or less than most them when it comes to skirting and/or crossing the legal line. He was close enough or over the line enough to open himself to the charge(s).

It isn’t fair, a liberal would whine, but that’s politics in America today.

Ya can’t get pregnant if you don’t screw around. You make it hard to impossible to be to make a criminal charge stick if you don’t break or stretch the law in the first place.

I thought he was charged by a Dem prosecutor, tried in a Dem stronghold and sentenced by a Dem judge. They were looking to smack DeLay no matter who said what and when. But I DO believe that you’re right.
