Fresno gay-rights activist Robin McGehee is going back to the White House -- but this time as an invited guest.

McGehee was invited to watch President Barack Obama today sign a bill repealing the "don't ask, don't tell" policy that prevents gays from serving openly in the military.

She received the invitation Monday and was on a plane Tuesday morning, said GetEQUAL spokesman Brad Luna. GetEQUAL is a gay-rights organization co-founded by McGehee.

In a brief telephone interview, McGehee said the repeal of "don't ask, don't tell" is on par with the integration of blacks and whites in the military in the late 1940s. And she called it a watershed moment in moving toward marriage rights for gays and lesbians. She added: "Being in that space [on Wednesday] is going to be hugely humbling."

McGehee wrote on her Facebook page Tuesday that she was taking her young son Sebastian along to witness the historic signing.

"I am only going to the DADT repeal signing to show Sebastian that standing up for what you believe in matters. The time I was away from him and his sister will hopefully lead to a more equal world," she wrote on Facebook.

McGehee has been involved in numerous gay-rights causes and helped organize "Meet in the Middle for Equality" in Fresno.

The statewide rally to protest the passage of Prop. 8 -- California's ban on same-sex marriage -- was held in May 2009 and drew thousands, including celebrities....

If I were black, I'd be HOT about that comparison. You knew that homosexual marriage would receive a big push if they repealed DADT.

My dad always used to talk about the “squeaky wheel getting the grease”. America is being fractured by too many squeaky wheels and not enough Americans.

Until the mainstream of America becomes a “squeaky wheel”, our future rests with specialized groups getting what they want - NOT America getting what it needs!!

We used to be the world’s “melting pot” in which the majority ruled. What happened to THAT America??

Well, the last time I looked at the dictionary a homo was a pervert. Not normal! Sorry folks but as a Vet, I don't buy any part of serving next to a he/she or a she/he. Take it for what it's worth. It's about time Americans stand up to those who trash our values and kick their butts.

I think it;s great that this guy can go over to the White House and give Obama a Lewinski before he flies off to Hawaii to meet the Wookie.

Frankly, I don’t recall incidents where blacks in the military pushed themselves onto whites with unwanted advances, or made suggestive comments, or came down with exotic diseases because of personal behavior.

nope— just another LIAR. Lesbians and Queers still can’t
reproduce. IF she is the biological mother of the child and not some Court appointed substitute for such—then she got the child as do all women via heterosexual sex.-or at least the clinical medical engineering that reproduces the same results.

Why is it when the Orthodox Jew— or Christian stands up for what they believe in it is called Bigotry and homophobia?
