Censorship Is Not Always Bad
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | December 16, 2010 | Walter Hudson

Imagine you are an American military veteran who has been injured in combat overseas. You have seen some of your friends cut down in the bloom of their youth, giving “the last full measure of devotion” for their cohort and their country. Throughout your network of friends and family, you know of countless others who have sacrificed, whether of themselves or through a loved one, to serve their country and the values upon which it was founded. Now you lie in a bed at a Veteran’s Affairs hospital in downtown Los Angeles, trying to work through your loss of function one day at a time. A nurse enters your room and throws open the curtains at the window, letting in the morning sun. As your eyes adjust to the light, you note from across the way a mural painted along a wide stretch of building. It is a depiction of the coffins of fallen soldiers. Draped across each, where a flag would normally lay, is an oversized dollar bill.

This hypothetical situation is likely what popped into the mind of Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) director Jeffrey Deitch when he first beheld the above work of Italian “street artist” Blu. The work had been commissioned by the MOCA without any consideration of content. Blu was simply provided the north wall of the MOCA’s Geffen Contemporary to adorn as he pleased, and chose to craft the depiction of coffins draped in dollar bills. In an effort to demonstrate sensitivity to the community, Deitch decided to have the work whitewashed. Predictably, the “street art community” has cried out in protest, accusing the MOCA of censorship.

Why? You don't need to excerpt your own work on FR.

Censorship is always bad.

The difference is nowadays people don’t have to fear repurcussions of what they say, paint, print, sing etc. There was a time when if someone crossed a line a quick tune up would make them realize it and then things were better. Now that isn’t the case. It’s not that censorship is needed it’s just that people need to learn manners.

I’ve got an idea for “Blu” for his next work...doves being hanged by cherry pickers operated by guys in turbans and dark robes. He could do it in Tehran.

Or maybe some kind of art in the Himalaya, on the side facing China, something in a saffron robe, maybe melting in the cold.

Just a couple of ideas, if he’d PM me I could come up with some more.

It all depends upon who they are debasing and insulting. If you insult America, Americans, soldiers, Whites or Christians, they have nothing to worry about. If they insult Jews, Blacks, Hispanics, Muslims, communists, or homosexuals they are in big trouble.

Sometimes I wish we had gangs of thugs to help out our “activist” friends on the Left - up close and personal -about what is civil and what is not in America. Alas we are conservatives and don’t believe in thugery. So we get to be the victims of left’s “moderate” social hate and harassment.

The only way these leftists will ever stop feeding the hate for power cult, is if they are afraid of getting beaten up or worse by their targets. They have no worry about that with modern Christians and the cowards know it.

You are correct people do what they are allowed to get away with. If someone is made to answer for their words or actions they will think twice before they pipe off. It’s really all of our’s fault. We have allowed this to get so badly.
