Representative Anthony Weiner (D-NY) defended the confiscatory taxation of estates arguing that dead people have no more need for money. Look, everybody knows you cant take it with you when you die. So its a question of who gets your money when you do.
Weiner contended that the deceaseds heirs dont deserve it. They didnt earn it, Weiner said. They have no rightful claim. The fact that the person who died wanted them to have it is irrelevant. A dead persons wishes have no moral or legal authority in the disposition of assets he no longer needs.
Rather than allow an unelected private person to determine how these assets will be used after his death, Weiner continued, it seems more just that the peoples elected representatives take control to ensure a more equitable distribution. There are many socially warranted programs that are under-funded. These have got to take precedence over the selfish desires of heirs to continue the family business.

I think it would be a fabulous, fabulous approach.
They should have a hundred percent death tax. It would work as well as a hundred percent income tax.
Can you imagine how much money there would be in a business that provided one service, ensuring that heirs received their inheritance? Hiding income, wealth assets?
Anthony, the state didn't ear it either. Matter of fact, they've probably been taxing it for years.
This is really going to bring a lot into the treasury. I bet no one ever dies with an estate if this goes into effect. No one can be the stupid.
Why are dims against letting the dead keep more of their money? The dead are a core democrat constituency after all. They should reward their loyal voters.
“Most importantly, the very rich can get accountants to set up trusts and entities that allow them to pass on most of their wealthy untouched.”
this statement makes no sense.
You mean to say that a middle class person with any wealth to pass on can’t hire an accountant to set up a trust and entity?
of course they can. But the cost is then a significant proportion of their wealth.
If it ever comes to pass...pull all your money out of everything, stop paying your bills
Bankrupt the system...start over
Said sort of facetiously
You had me going for a while on this thread. Because it is so believable, lol. Good one.
Spend enough time with thieves, and they’ll have you believing that theft is a moral imperative. Just ask the ghost of Nikolai Lenin.
This is obvious satire. A real Dem would support 100% taxation of the living but would respect a dead man’s wishes. Only 40% of the living vote for Dems, while over 100% of dead votes go to Dems.
What we own is the result of a family enterprise. Hubby was a road warrior for 35 years. Chik was both parents during the week, while working full time; hubby was both on weekends when she had to work. The kids helped out in ways large and small, and made it possible for us to make it possible. What we leave behind when we pass on has been earned many times over by our children.
Very nicely written nit. These liberals never cease to amaze me, pure communists through and through but I’ll bet they protect their own ‘earnings’.
