Its zero hour for the DREAM Act...For two years, Barack Obama failedor, if you prefer, refusedto nudge along a major immigration bill. The last-ditch hope is that departing Democrats, and a few Republicans, somehow band together in the lame-duck session and pass a law allowing illegal immigrants who came to the United States as minors to gain citizenship. Harry Reid promised to bring up the bill for a Senate cloture vote this week. Republicans vowed to scuttle it...
But as Chicago congressman Luis Gutiérrez prepares for a rally at a church in Brooklyn, the DREAM Act seems like the end of his interest in congressional gamesmanship rather than the start. Gutiérrez is one of several Hispanic leaders who have found themselves politically estranged from the president. Moreover, they are numbed by the legislative process that denied them a vote on immigration reform, much less a victory, when Democrats controlled both houses of Congress...The opportunity to have gotten it done is gone.
The DREAM Act, Gutiérrez says, is for now his final legislative maneuver. Hes finished waiting for the mythical 60th vote to materialize in the Senate. No, when the lame duck ends, Gutiérrez and his movement allies will ask for a divorcefrom the Democratic Party...To hear Gutiérrez tell it, Hispanic leaders are about to stage a full-tilt campaign of direct action, like the African-American civil-rights movement of the 1960s. There will be protests, marches, sit-inswhat César Chávez might have called going rogue. The movement will operate autonomously, no longer beholden to wavering Democrats, filibustering Republicans, andperhaps most tantalizinglyno longer beholden to Barack Obama...

You have absolutely no proof of this.
Are the members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus all illegals too?
I believe we’re screwed.
This is the Reconquista Act.
Let’s see, we have roughly 15 percent real unemployment.....not the cooked numbers the gubberment gives out which are bad enough.
America is losing it’s identity, culture, and unity. These invading masses of criminal wetbacks need to be deported in mass, 1st, 2nd, and I’d even go 3rd generations.
They are for the most part a total scourge on America’s social fabric.
We have defacto Amnesty now. Nothing is being done and soon America will become NorteMexicano. An extension of a non-productive[except for breeding like rabbits] 3rd world crime ridden sh!t hole.
Additionally, they will be able to petition for their adult siblings living abroad to immigrate to the U.S., When an adult brother or sister receives a green card, the family (spouse and children) of that adult sibling receives green cards as well.
It is unending.
In a situation like this, someone is going to pay a price, and IT SHOULD NOT BE US CITIZENS AND TAXPAYERS. I am sure you think you are a kind, generous and thoughtful person, but I find it difficult to see any justification for what you are advocating. You have taken sides against your fellow Americans and those who have obeyed our laws.
Then there's the Pew poll,
Hispanics were nearly evenly split on the impact of illegal immigration had on Latinos already living in the country. Twenty-nine percent say the impact has been positive, 31 percent say it has been negative and 30 percent say it has had no impact.
And of course, I believe my neighbor. ;)
Yup.
How many beans do we let in legally each year? [Which shows how really insane our Government is...]
How many are here now? 40-50 million.
It’s not a hard math problem.....I bet 20 percent of the hispanic caucus are illegal. A hundred precent of them are RACISTS.
DEPORT THEM ALL.
Not just yet. Keep the faith.
They’ll keep pushing and don’t know when to stop and cash in their chips. They gambling with their existence in this country and they’ll surely lose much more than they’ll ever expect.
The Communists’ survival come ‘12 is based on more illegals, more votes, more fraud and more in your face after losing in ‘10.
Our beloved country has to be protected by We The People. So far, it’s a clean record.
I guess lots depends on how you read polls: I see it as more than 70% of Hispanics telling Pew that illegal immigration hasn’t caused any problems.
*A Northern Mexican state, divorced of the south, would become a functional first world state within a generation or so. It would then be able to absorb the south much as West Germany absorbed the east.*
Good plan!
That would only be under the current incarnation of the DREAM act. Like I said, a Republican rewrite would need to both purge the bad stuff, and take what you said into account.
Right now, if you are a citizen, while it might help to sponsor relatives to come to the US, it is no guarantee they will be permitted. However, at the same time there is a horrific long wait for legitimate citizenship that needs to be streamlined.
But the real emphasis needs to be on keeping good immigrants, and expelling the bad ones. The way we do things now is as nonsensical as not racial-religious profiling at airports. People are not equal, and should not be treated equally, if they do not behave equally.
Speaking from my own vantage point, I have seen some real tangles with immigration, most of which were caused by federal malfeasance.
There are many split families with members who are legal, who are illegal, who are integrated, and who are not integrated, and there is no great rhyme nor reason to it. An elderly woman who has been here for 50 years may be legal, but speak almost no English, and be wholly culturally Mexican, but her granddaughter may be an illegal, yet speak perfect English, graduate from high school, etc.
There has to be a resolution to this that is not unconscionable.
Right. Balkanization. Glad to see that people are catching on. Thank you for the heads’ up.
“I believe that Obama will legalize them by pardon.”
Pardons don’t grant citizenship.
I already said the leaders are paid off. You don't think the Congressional Hispanic Caucus is paid off?
About 3 billion third worlders would like to be Americans. Congress could make it all legal with a few paragraphs added to the US code and you wouldn't have an objection?
It's about demographic make up, ethnicity, religion and cultural compatibility. It always has been. "Legal" shouldn't be what the argument rests on.
We have 310 million people. Most immigration that we could possibly get lean heavily to the left of even an East Coast Democrat. We don't need any more people here.
The swamps are drained, the roads are paved and the cities are built up. America is full, close the door.
Castilians, Basque that are here maybe?
But I assure you the vast majority of mestizos do. If you doubt this just sit in a Chicago bar among them and listen to their reactions when news regarding Latin American immigration in the US comes on the TV.
You’re right. I don’t listen to Glenn Beck. And you can’t grant citizenship by pardon...if Beck’s saying that he’s nuttier than I thoght.
“Gutierrez is using threats to try to achieve his goals.”
In other words, Gutierrez truly IS a “domestic terrorist”!
Great idea. Stamp them all "Application Denied" and then stop taking any more applications. It can't get any more streamlined than that.
Thanks for the ping, Lady Jag.
