Preparing for the End of the World: Making Your Family Tough
Human Events ^ | 11/30/10 | Skip Coryell

Posted on 11/30/2010 5:47:13 AM PST by Kartographer

In the opening article of this series I painted the following picture:

Close your eyes and imagine a world without electricity: no Fox News, no facebook, no email, no Blackberry, no cold drinks, no heat in the winter, no automobiles, no food and no way to cook it even if you had it. It’s the end of the world as we know it (TEOTWAWKI) and you and your family are going to die.

That’s a pretty bleak picture. But I left you with a little hope.

I clarified it by saying: “Unless, of course, you are prepared.”

I just ordered a 25# bag of Real Salt (only have a few #s left, shared it with friends) and they were out! Canning salt is good because it has no additives. I have about 6 pounds but that’s not enough. I do have a lot of regular salt though.

It’s basically impossible to eat without salt and for most people it is needed for health.

(Speaking of which, I hope yours is improving!!)

I canned butter two or three years ago and finally used it, some was 1 1/2 years old. It was all fine and tasted as it did when I canned it. It’s not exaclty like fresh butter but works well especially for cooking.

I prefer to make ghee and can that. But actually I’m planning to buy a lot of butter soon and can up a bunch of both.

God then replied, “I sent you the raft, I sent you the canoe and I sent you the boat, absolutely I heard your prayers and answered them.”

I like that old story. The sad fact is that most people who claim to be religious have their head filled with fantasies and magic, will accept nothing that resembles reality, truth, facts, or honesty.

God gave us brains to use. It is not by accident that we were given the ability to reason and judge, to examine the evidence of our senses, and to draw conclusions. That is what separates us from lower classes of animals and liberals.

Say whut?

Of course the Blood of Jesus etc. is sufficient for reconciliation with The Father.

The honorable thing is to quote all of a text you are responding to or at least to show where the parts you removed would have gone.

Here’s the last lines of my post that you responded with your own selective editing of what I’d posted:

Folks who choose to DISBELIEVE The Bible about this looming period being the worst the world HAS EVER KNOWN AND EVER WILL KNOW

either don’t believe the Bible is the Word of God

or have turned off too big a percentage of their brains to make sense of the evidence.

In those cases, God have mercy on all who depend on such clueless ones for anything.

My point was and is . . . the END TIMES BIBLICAL PROPHECIES

PLUS THE ROUTINELY INCREASING EVIDENCE IN THE DAILY NEWS OF THIS AS THE END TIMES

constitute such a huge body of confirming evidence as to leave little choice but to consider folks like Preterists, Amils, Postmils . . . REPLACEMENTARIANS to be extremely

clueless. And that’s fairly charitable.

Sooooooooooo clueless that I’m not sure I’d be comfortable asking many of them which way North was or where the nearest bathroom was.

I’m being slightly cheeky. But not near as cheeky as their perspectives are toward The Bible on such matters and toward God regarding

HIS ASSERTIONS about

HIS UNFAILING, EVERLASTING PROMISES to the blood descendants of Jacob.

I guess the huge piles of evidence against REPLACEMENTARIANISM . . . the growing evidence is sooooo extensive and stark . . . I’m losing patience with such idiocies.

Make links clickable by putting an “ENTER”

I usually put the link on it’s own line, too.

And you think I'M delusional.

Oh, most definitely.

You writings clearly indicate you consider yourself some sort of cross between a gadfly and a prophet. Unfortunately, those mantles don't quite fit.

You see, the annoyance of the gadfly come from posing questions that can't be answered without exposing the hidden agenda of the one answering; whereas your questions are "interrogative statements" that accomplish nothing more than harassing those who disagree with you.

Similarly, a prophet is speaking for his God, not his faction or sect, therefore his ego isn't threatened, and there's no need for him to expend effort "saving face,' as you do with predictable regularity.

Finally, your use of (by your own admission) intentionally insulting and provocative labels to inflame your opponents as a kind of rhetorical filibuster, while maintaining your benign intentions, demands only one of two explainations. Either you are a true sociopath, or you're delusional.

I'm choosing the more charitable explaination.

Thanks for the link, good information about DE. This stuff is pretty amazing! I have two very large dogs that I use frontline on and it never seems to eradicate the fleas on their butts. The vet even confirmed that for larger breeds it does not reach their rear areas too well. My German Shephard goes around looking like his butt has mousse on it from him knawing at it. This morning they will be dusted with it. Thanks again guys!

Thanks. Good link, alright.

It’s great against insects and in aquarium filters.

It’s very destructive in lungs. Insure it stays out of lungs of those you care for.

I didn't realize you cared so much!

I dare say you'd be profoundly humbled if you ever realized just how much you're "cared" for around here.

Of course, living on the religion forum provides a formidable barrier to such understanding.

Sorry about that. Got a new laptop and it seems to have cut and paste at it’s own discretion.

I guess I’m wondering in what way God must show mercy above and beyond the mercy he already extends to his children- isn’t his initial mercy enough?

And I thought you were a big advocate of the free will of God? The way you make it sound- God himself is fatalistically subjected to an end time scenario that even he can’t change.

Regarding the idea of making oneself or one's family tougher for difficult times, that really equates to putting away enough emergency provisions to give everyone time to toughen up. If the necessities are met then you'll have plenty of opportunity to measure up due to the challenging environment.

However, getting a head start by pursuing physical fitness today is still an *extremely* good idea.

Not at all.

However, God IS subject to HIS WORD.

HE HIMSELF DECLARED HIS WORD INVIOLATE, THAT EVERY LAST TINIEST PART WOULD BE FULFILLED TO THE LETTER.

That includes all the stuff He said about the END TIMES

which was quite a lot, of verses, actually.

I can sit under a tree , drink from puddles an live under a debris hut for 7 days if I KNOW my ride out will be there at 0700 local

I remember from my days in Uncle Sam's Flying Circus Survival School that "There would be a real breakfast Saturday morning at 0700", and I counted the hours until then, divided by the number of food items I had, and told myself "You can eat something every 4.5 hours (or whatever it worked out to)".

If they had told us Thursday "New Plan - no breakfast Saturday - you're going to be here for an indeterminate period" it would have been most distressing.

Yes he did. But even the first Church believed that Christ's return was imminent. And throughout the history of the Church there has always been those who believed that Christ's return was imminent.

I do believe things may and probably will get real bad in the near future but that does not necessarily mean that Christ's return is imminent. Things were really bad during the Dark Ages and I'm sure many people during that era believed that Christ's return was imminent but God deemed fit that it was not time yet. So it could be now even if things get extremely bad.

I believe it's really bad form to press ones eschatalogical views as the thing necessary for redemption.
