Video: Welfare Destroys The Human Spirit
Casey Hendrickson & Heather Kydd on KDOX ^

Posted on 11/08/2010 6:23:23 PM PST by Casey Hendrickson KDOX

You'd think I murdered someone when I proclaim that if you took welfare or unemployment away from people, it'd be amazing how fast they found work to feed themselves. The looks, the sneers, the gasps all indicate that this logically correct and sound principal is lost to modern generations of entitlement seekers. At least someone gets it.

Watch the video at the link.

We have paid people to sit on their asses and pump out babies for so long that there are many who will starve when the system collapses.

There’s a story in the bible where Jesus tells of some women who are waiting at the entrance to be let in to a wedding-feast. Some of them brought extra oil for their lamps and some did not; as the hours passed away the ones who didn’t bring extra oil ran out. They asked the ones who did bring some extra oil but were turned down; it was all too possible that if they shared they would both run out before the gates were opened. So the ones who didn’t bring extra oil were told to go into town and find someone willing to sell them some oil, and while they were gone the host opened the gate and let them in.

Unarguably a Christian story; and equally unarguable that the bottom line is that individuals are responsible for themselves and no others. There is no ‘group’ salvation*, nor is it mandatory to “be nice” to someone to your own detriment.

*It can be argued that the Second Coming is when Jesus comes for his Church, which is a ‘group’ of people; but just like the story above there was a ‘group’ that was allowed inside, but it was not because of the group-as-a-whole but because every member thereof, as an individual, made the wise choices that allowed them to be able to enter.

From personal experience of supporting a family member, welfare destroys people mentally. Given what that has done to my family, if is extrapolated out to the whole country and all the welfare programs, I am surprised there aren’t riots in the street. At least there will be when the money runs out.

I don’t have a problem giving temporary assistance to someone who lost a job. It should be no more then three months and only be given to people who are actively seeking work. It should also be capped so a person can’t use it more then four times over a ten year period. Welfare should be the same way. It should have never been turned into a way of life. The government shouldn’t give people an incentive to stay home and have children out of wedlock. It created a class of lazy people who only work at gaming the system.

I feel your pain brother! But let ANYONE try to stop the "giving" and "the fit WILL hit the shan" in a MAJOR way.

I believe we have painted ourselves in a very difficult corner, and I frankly don't see an easy way out, or even hard way out.

"Hang on, it's gonna be a bumpy flight!"
