Watching President Obamas press conference today, one could be forgiven for thinking that last nights elections had never happened, and that his party had not slumped to its biggest midterm defeat in the House of Representatives since 1948.
While he admitted that he had been humbled and talked about new cooperation with political foes, there was no acknowledgment whatsoever from the president that his policies had failed, or that they had been emphatically rejected by the American people. He demonstrated a striking defiance of public opinion, and a refusal to change the direction of his agenda.
The US electorate has spoken out with a megaphone against Big Government, seemingly endless spending, rising budget deficits, useless stimulus programmes, and deeply unpopular health care reforms. That message does not appear to have sunk in yet at the White House.
The United States is in serious economic trouble, and on a trajectory towards long-term decline unless it reverses course, and quickly. The midterm results were a massive repudiation of the presidents agenda, and a dramatic appeal for small government. As Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina wrote in The Wall Street Journal this morning in a plea to the new Congress, which now offers the best hope for rebuilding Americas strength:
Remember what the voters back home wantless government and more freedom. Millions of people are out of work, the government is going bankrupt and the country is trillions in debt. Americans have watched in disgust as billions of their tax dollars have been wasted on failed jobs plans, bailouts and takeovers. Its up to us to stop the spending spree and make sure we have a government that benefits America instead of being a burden to it.
DeMint is absolutely right. As last nights vote showed, the American people want to

Like his namesake, Saddam Hussein, Barry just doesn’t want to listen. He intends to continue down the road to Obamanism. You just can’t fix stupid.
He’s like one of those idiots who talks on a radio with their thumb mashed down on the talk button ... can’t hear what anyone else is saying.
His performance shows how twisted and how anti-American he is. He is a radical ideologue with an ego too big to fit through a doorway. He will not change, and any PERCEIVED change will only be done so he can blame Conservatives for the fact that HE will not change. He is a fraud and January of 2013 cannot come fast enough. All we can do is try to minimize the damage he will deliberately continue to do to America behind the scenes via destructive regulation and taxation — all the things he can get away with WITHOUT the legislative approval and oversight of Congress.
It is now the turn of the Republicans in the House. They MUST attack his anti-American agenda, and let it become record that Obama will veto all the plans and measures they put forth in the form of good legislation to FIX AND REPAIR America and the damage Obama has done and will continue to do. The Repubs must act and act swiftly and smartly to set this up and make it happen.
He didn’t run to listen to America but change it.
He’s not the stupid one - his voters are. He hates America and he’s doing what were his plans all along.
any transcipt of the presscon yet?
Good! I’m glad he’s not listening! In Nov 2012 we’ll finish this business up once and for all.
I’ve watched the political Left in this country for over forty years. Neither they nor Obama will change in any way. They’re incapable of it.
He probably thinks that when it comes to re-election he can follow the path set by his role models, Hugo Chavez and Robert Mugabe.
We may not have to do much either. With this attitude toward the Republican majority in the House and equality in Senate I predict a presidential melt down at some point.
Then it will be out there for all to see.
In our man child president’s mind it is Bush’s fault, it will be Congress’s fault, it is everyone else who is so partisan and extreme, except Obama. He will have painted himself into a corner and he will come unglued because he can’t admit responsibility.
Assured of his intellectual and ideological superiority he was showered with in his inauguration and with the media, he will look like Captain Queeg of the Caine Mutiny, rolling his ball bearings in his paranoid conspiracy theories surrounded by his “enemies”. “But I’m the President!!?!?!!”
-Only one term
Truer words are rarely spoken, sir.
I live in the belly of the beast of Midwestern Liberalism: Madison Wisconsin. Eradicating the rat is an all day, every day situation. I should qualify for a pension from Orkin working for the GOP.
I doubt if he is stupid, or maybe stupid like a Fox. He has an agenda and he is going to push it regardless of this election. The Republicans in Congress have to be ready to spike his guns at every opportunity. This is a take no prisoners situation. Perhaps he is the most dangerous president that our country has ever had.
The Kenyan is on a mission.....A socialist mission to redistribute wealth. I don’t think he will change his agenda.
“He demonstrated a striking defiance of public opinion, and a refusal to change the direction of his agenda.”
Rush predicted this, as anyone who has followed this man and understands him has.
He is not capable of switching course. He is not mature enough, and too much of an ideologue. The idea that he is just very wrong is not something he will even consider.

He has stated that the American people are his enemy.
We all know where we stand now in our new constitutional configuration:
The Executive branch, the Legislative branch, the Judicial branch, and the Enemy Branch.
excellent.
He did run on “Change”. As one old lady said to me, “He’s terrible! Who knew this was the change he meant?”
Well, I did, and tried to warn her...
