Alcohol More Harmful Than Heroin Or Cocaine?
http://wmbriggs.com/blog/?p=3106 ^ | William M. Briggs

Belly up to the bar, boys. Have a snort! Reach into that pile of needles and raise them high. I’d like to propose a toast to Professors David Nutt [sic], Leslie King, and Lawrence Phillips for proving, via sophisticated statistical modeling, that heroin and cocaine are less harmful than alcohol.

Cheers! Sniff! Snort! Syringe Plunge! Followed quickly by a mix of manic and stuporous applause.

It is true: no drug is more harmful than alcohol. Nutt [sic] and his pals have proved it scientifically, submitted their proof to peer review, and published it in the Lancet, one of the top two medical journals in the world. Nothing beats peer review!

The article is Drug harms in the UK: a multicriteria decision analysis, which, if I read it correctly, means there is still a chance for us in the States, our frozen brothers to the North, you guys Down Under, and for our cousins elsewhere to find another drug more harmful than booze.

Nutt’s [sic] paper is science (right, Luis?). We know this because it appears in a science journal, has been reviewed by peers, has footnotes to other sciences papers, a table, plenty of scientific pictures, and prose thick enough to choke a whale. Just take a look at this excerpt and see if you do not marvel at its scienceness:...

Good thing there aren’t as many Meth users as alcoholics.

Meth addicts cause less deforestation than alcohol drinkers. According to the paper.

Actually I suspect the danger of alcohol can mostly be attributed to the fact that its easily accessible. Mix that with cars and you have a deadly combination.

I doubt legal drugs would be any different.

The simple fact that alcohol is by far more widely used, seems to be indicative in the report.

I’ve seen what meth can do in a very short period of time to a person’s life. It ain’t pretty.

This silly argument that “It’s not any worse than alcohol.” is NOT a “reason” to legalize anything!

The world does NOT need better access to a laundry list of things that “aren’t any worse than booze.”!

If it weren’t for the election, this would have been a huge political argument by now.

Hmmm. My mother in law is 86 and drinks 3-4 bourbons a night. So if she stops alcohol and starts meth she could live to 96?!

My brother finally quit drinking in 1999, dead at 54.

Alcohol More Harmful Than Heroin Or Cocaine?

Patent BULLSH1tput out by the pro-druggie crowd to try to get drugs legalized.

It has been "proved" that Democrats are much more hazardous to our health than any other political party, so let's outlaw the Democrats...then we'll all be safe. /sarc

90% of the alcohol in the US is consumed by 27% of the people. 50% of the alcohol is consumed by just 6% of the population. The number of responsible drinkers and non drinkers out numbers the irresponsible population by 15 to 1.

This is just someone in Great Britain laying the foundation for sharia law and a prohibition on alcohol.

Most damage from meth is due to the impurities and toxic chemicals that are nearly always taken in addition to the crystal amphetamine. Street meth is rarely clear.

Pure Meth is prescribed for daily use to people with various brain disorders, including children. There are less side-effects than with daily use of alcohol.

Most drugs are safe for most people when used as directed. Many can enhance coordination and mental ability when used scientifically. Alcohol is just a solvent than numbs the entire body

Sheesh - we are too stupid to make decisions for ourselves and so we need a Nanny State to make decisions for us.

I love the totalitarians wrapped in the flag of liberty.

“There are less side-effects than with daily use of alcohol.”

That remains to be seen. Wait until the drug is removed from their system to see the real side-effect.

Personal not in favor of drugging children.

As the late Sir Winston S. Churchill said of brandy, “I believe I have taken far more from it than it has taken from me.”

The single most abused drug in the world is not heroin, cocaine, tobacco, or even alcohol.

It’s caffeine.

Cokes, Diet Cokes, Coffee, mochas, chocolate - they all contain caffeine. Add in the new energy drinks, and even the “lean” and the “four loko”, and you’ve got the single most abused drug on the planet.
