I voted for Scott and Marco today.
I don’t understand why Florida cannot field decent candidates for the Governor’s race. First Crist and now Scott, geesh. This is the second governor’s race where i had to write in m wife’s name as I could not stomach the Republican nominee.
Thankfully we have a great candidate in Rubio who should easily win the senate.
“Thankfully we have a great candidate in Rubio who should easily win the senate.”
Need to straighten out the senate.
I’ve been researching a lot about Rick Scott’s case...and it’s not as the media makes it sound. To start, the famous fines came 3 years after Scott had left the company. Also, remember all these investigations occurred during Clinton Administration and Janet Reno as AG - they tried to break MicroSoft as well.
I will post something tomorrow.
FactReal.com
The hospitals and pharmaceutical companies that also paid over-billing fines include Harvard, Mayo, Cleveland Clinic, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Pfizer, Merck, Eli-Lilly, etc., etc. With 343 hospitals, Columbia-HCA was the biggest and received the biggest fine.
Are the Justice Department and the FBI inept? They went after Rick Scott for years and he's still a free man. I think you simply fell for the rumors and inuendo without bothering to check the facts.
You can come up with all the BS you want but he headed up a company that was involved in massive medicare fraud. This was not ‘standard industry practice’.
The fraud occurred while Scott was Chairman and CEO. Rick Scott was forced out as a result of the criminal investigation. Nobody went to jail as a settlement was reached that avoided criminal prosecution. The total settlement was 1.7 Billion dollars.
Say what you like, Rick Scott was a crook and the above are all facts - not rumor or innuendo.
THERE ARE A LOT OF GOOD CONSERVATIVES IN FLORIDA, HOW THE HECK DO WE END UP WITH THE LIKES OF CRIST AND SCOTT???
Alice is right.
The Reno justice dept was sent after Scott and all the other Healthcare execs after they lobbied against Hillarycare. Hillary and Bill warned them and the entire industry was attacked one by one ( Tenet, Healthsouth, ....)
The cases against Columbia/HCA were related to acquisitions of a large Home Health Agency, BAMA, and
Healthtrust.
Columbia / HCA inherited the open Medicare billing and settlement issues with these companies and all their past mistakes .
Suddenly, all these whistle blowers appeared out of nowhere from these previous companies or inherited employees who were later let go by Columbia/HCA. The Reno/ Hillary JD was out scouting for these scam artists to seek revenge and they found them.
So , Scott wanted to fight but the Board and Major stockholders wanted to settle to save their stock price and mergers in the works.
So. That is why none of the healthcare companies fought Obamacare since they witnessed the JD destroy the enemies of Hillarycare.
I worked on that Reno/ Hillary smear feast of Columbia /HCA in the 90’s.
Obamacare passed because all the health-care exec's had witnessed the power of a radicalized left wing Justice dept. seeking revenge for leftist leaders.
Your correct too .
That poster is spreading pure lies !
I worked on those cases and posted some of the facts.
It was alot more complicated than that since the major stockholders served up Scott to save their own hides and the stock price.
Too bad you didn’t bother to read the story I linked to in post #7, newbie, you might have learned something.
And yes, it was standard industry practice nationwide. I worked in the field for 22+ years, my employer was also fined.
You wasted your vote!!
Thanks, ncalburt. I sick and tired of those who repeat Alex Sink’s talking points without checking the facts!
I did read your article. I also read several other articles where it was clear that the fraudulent kickbacks started started with the first two hospitals in Texas that Scott acquired to launch his company.
As I wrote in my wife’s name, your comment about wasting my vote is sorta laughable. I will not vote for people just because they have an R next to their name.
I did not intend to get into a debate about HCA. My point was the R party should be able to field better candidates, especially considering the mood of the country. Unfortunately they decided McCollum was the man and he has got to be the worst campaigner possible. There are many good candidates who could have run who did not have the baggage of Scott and could have easily won this election.
By running a poor candidate, they allowed someone with a lot of money and a lot of baggage to win the primary. And we are now where we are at thus my complaint.
Sloppy Due Diligence will get come back to haunt you every time ! Reading that poster sea of Sink lies and propaganda was bizarre since I worked on that Phony Reno lawsuit mess for two years !
These Col/HCA ( now just HCA) acquisitions were done on the fly and alot of unknowns and mistakes were brought to the JD by the same fired incompetents ( now protected whistle blowers) who created the mess in the first place under the old ownership.
Did you ever read the article written about the luncheon that Mrs Richard Rainwater ( major stockholder)hosted with the Frist family and some other Col/HCA execs at her Ft Worth home in which she is serving up snacks while plotting how Scott was going to canned as a PR move to get Hillary/ Reno to settle the lawsuits and in order to save the stock price ?
I wish I could find it.
It was a wild story.
There were no kickbacks like your assuming. It was a legal dispute regarding sections of these hospital JV ownerships. But Reno/ Hillary and their buddies in the media spun the story as a kickback !
Anyone and any organization can run afoul of Medicare regulations or the interpretation of the regulations. Scott was painted as a bad guy when in fact, Medicare came after him deliberately since he was so large and so successful.
When the feds come after you with an agenda, they can ALWAYS find something wrong. Unfortunately, most people have never been involved with billing for Medicare. Our massive government has royally mucked up EVERYTHING it touches, and you think billing is different?
I worked at a medical facility that billed Medicaid and Medicare. The govt. changes their requirements constantly. I can easily see when you own that many facilities small errors occur and they would add up in a very quick order. Rick wasnt filling out the claim forms, it was some low-level data entry clerk.
Scott accepted responsibility for the problems at Columbia/HCA: “There’s no question that mistakes were made and as CEO, I have to accept responsibility for those mistakes. I was focused on lowering costs and making the hospitals more efficient. I could have had more internal and external controls. I learned hard lessons, and I’ve taken that lesson and it’s helped me become a better business person and a better leader.”
It is time to give a man like Rick Scott, warts and all, a chance to lead. If we only insist on non-controversial, politically correct and connected candidates that are afraid to take on the entrenched interests of both parties, then you get a Charlie Crist. Look how well that worked out.
Check out my grandson with Rick Scott!!
From what I have seen, the heart of the case against HCA was illegal kickbacks to doctors that inflated medicare claims. These kickbacks were instituted by Scott at the companies start-up and was instituted throughout the organization as it grew.
I simply do not believe that Scott was not aware that this was instituted, occurring, and illegal.
Prove it.
