Apparently so, via Kyle Hopkins at the Anchorage Daily News:
I'm sitting at the Division of Elections office here in Midtown, where more than a dozen people have filed this afternoon to run as write-in candidates for U.S. Senate.
KFQD 750 AM radio host Dan Fagan, a backer of Republican nominee Joe Miller, has been urging voters to sign up in an act of "civil disobedience" -- defying what he calls the courts' illegal decision to allow a list of write-in candidates at polling places.
The ruling is expected to aid Sen. Lisa Murkowski's write-in bid. The idea of the mass registration is to create a long list of potential write-in choices and make it harder for voters to find Murkowski's name.
The deadline for registering as a write-in candidate is the close of business today.
"I'm signing up to become a senator," a man in a hoodie said into his cell phone. An Anchorage woman who said she was upset with the court ruling wheeled in her oxygen tank, asking if she could sign up to run for both federal and state office.
More soon.
UPDATE: Make that about two dozen people.
I'm not sure about the Dan Fagan connection. I thought this was Dan Riehl's idea. But as Reagan once said, there's no limit to what can be accomplished if you don't care who gets the credit. If there are any more readers in Alaska, get down to the Division of Elections and join the party.
Update: Hopkins has updated his article to include the following information:
The Anchorage office received 56 Senate write-in applications -- in person or by fax -- in just 45 minutes, said election clerk Raymond McAndrews at 5 p.m.
Question for our Alaska readers: Are there Division of Elections offices other than the one in Anchorage? If so, how many more write-in applications have been received on top of the 56 in Anchorage?
And what’s the USSC going to say? That you can’t have a whole big bunch of people running as “write in” candidates? Or are you bothered by the LIST ~ just sign me up. This is kind of like “jury nullification”!
The Alaska Supreme Court. The decision the other day was temporary pending further consideration.
I doubt SCOTUS would touch this.
Beware of unintended consequences.
If you think your enemy will just lie down because you fired a warning shot, you are mistaken.
If I can SEE this, the DEMS can too. They will assume that a vote for ANYONE on the write in list, was MEANT to be for Murkowski. Their justification is that they ‘know’ that all those who got in on the late WRITE IN list, are not serious candidates for office, and can just be ignored.
Those who say that ‘they’ won’t do this, are ignoring the fact that Murkowski is on a WRITE IN LIST (which is then being given to incoming voters), which basically is illegal to begin with.
So,,, you are saying you were completely wrong?
I think the Supreme Court should uphold the voting laws of the State of Alaska; no printed campaign materials in the polling place. With them providing a paper with her name on it, in a sense, “puts her on the friggin’ ballot”, and she did not earn a spot on the ballot. She lost her Primary.
LOLOL
Just call me, Tony, OK?
IIRC, Stevens lost his seat when he was WRONGLY under indictment in ‘08. So now Begich holds that seat thru 2014. No way the Princess would wait that long
There is a large body of informed voters out there these days. This is a great tactical move. GO ALASKA!!!
I do not know much about the relationship between Joe and Lisa. It is my understanding that Joe defended Lisa during Troopergate and because of that Lisa appointed Joe's wife to the Alaska Judicial Council. Do you know more about this relationship?
I have been totally honest. Many folks know that I am a long time Alaskan and like many Alaskans will need to work with whom ever is elected.
Yes. I saw where you already stated you were wrong. Thanks for responding.
So, has that changed your opinion of Sarah ?
