NEW DELHI: Post-Diwali Delhiites will not be starved of excitement. US President Barack Obama, on his first visit to the country, will be coming down to the capital for two days on November 7. Obama and his wife Michelle will be staying at ITC Maurya where the grand presidential floor is specially being prepared for them.
Obama is the third American President after Bill Clinton in 2000 and George Bush in 2006 to be staying at the hotel. He will be staying at the hotel for two nights at the presidential floor, which boasts of its own library, a 12-seater private dining room, its own sauna and steam bath.
Sources revealed that a special platter, to be named after the president, is being prepared by the chefs. ‘‘ Before this, the hotel had platters named after Clinton, his daughter Chelsea and wife Hillary. Some time back while he was in London, Obama had hinted at that and expressed his desire to have a platter named after him as well when he visited Delhi. From what can be heard, the platter contains special meat, chicken and sea food dishes. In fact, it might not be restricted to a platter but an entire special menu might be named after him,’’ reported sources.
Sources added that certain other dishes that were on the hotel’s menu earlier like paneer and chicken khurchan might make a reappearance during the President’s stay and continue to stay on the menu even later on. While Obama’s chef might be travelling in what might be one of the biggest Presidential entourage, the hotel cooks are busy planning special meat dishes and tandoori food knowing Obama’s predilection for meat.
The hotel would be out of bounds for the general public on November 7 and 8. Once the US security force takes over a couple of days before the President arrives, not even hotel guests would be permitted inside and all 440 rooms in the hotel are booked for Obama’s entourage . Sources added that extremely tight security would be maintained and even hotel staff would be issued special passes and identity cards. The hotel has kept its luxury spa and Kaya Kalp ready in case Obama and his wife choose to pamper themselves with traditional Indian rejuvenating therapies, add sources.
Highly-placed sources revealed that the hotel was specially picked for its tight security cover, including three separate wings that would make the President more secure, the green initiatives taken by the hotel and ‘Bukhara food’ . ‘‘ The three separate wings would make it very easy to house the foreign guests, media and officials and ensure that only restricted access is given to people. The President will have an entire floor for his use. Feelers have been received from the US government that they might want to associate with a green initiative while in the city. However, nothing has been specified so far,’’ said sources.
Is he abdicating the throne on November 3rd ?

So, considering Dear Leader’s visit will be after the Mid Term Elections and if the results end up being as predicted; and if as is being suggested by the Pundits, more a repudiation of the Community Agitator’s agenda, can we expect the main ingredient in said dish to be “Crow?” lol
The Imperial procession to the Cathedral was a lavish, picturesque sight. It was led by a Cossack squadron, the horsemen being dressed in red Circassian coats. Behind them, in an open carriage, travelled His Majesty the Tsar with the Heir Czarevich and the Grand Duke Alexei.
Then followed the Dowager Empress and the Tsarina travelling in a luxurious carriage drawn by four white horses.....a Postillion and Two Cossacks of the Guard standing on the footboard. The four Grand Duchesses road in a barouche drawn by a pair of noble steeds.
Later in the day there was a great reception in the Winter Palace. Her Majesty wore a blue velvet gown and a tiara headdress with a veil studded in pearls and diamonds. The ball was magnificent and crowded.
The next evening, there was an opera performance of Glinka's "A Life for the Tsar". The opulence of the evening dress was dazzling. Starring in the operatic performance were the leading ballerinas of the day, including Pavlova, and the greatest singers in all of Mother Russia.
The ensuing four days of celebration were a dense schedule of receptions, meetings and balls. Summing up his impression, Nicholas II wrote in his diary: "Thank Lord God who shed his grace upon Russia and upon us so that we could decently and joyously celebrate the days of the tercentenary of the Romanov's accession".
Then the Imperial Family started on a tour of Russian towns to trace the celebratory route taken by the first Romanov Tsar three centuries before. Gala events were staged at every stop on the journey.
The continuous lavish celebrations and sight-seeing along the way came to a climax when months later the Royal Family and its retinue arrived by train back to Moscow. There was a procession from the station to the Palace led by Nicholas astride a golden chestnut horse in full military regalia, followed by the brilliantly-garbed Court entourage. One side of the route was lined by troops, glamourous in their full dress uniforms, the other by crowds of cheering people.
On July 17, 1918, all the pomp and circumstances of the ages came to an abrupt end in the dank, dirty basement of the Ipatyev house in Yekaterinburg. The macabre events that took place there saw the annihilation of the Romanov family, its dynasty...along with its excesses and disregard for the abused subjects who had to pay the bills with the sweat of their brows for the imperial egos, caprices and lust for power down through the centuries.
