Juan Williams Canned by NPR “National Public Radio” for “Anti-Muslim” Remarks
Republican Redefined ^ | T Christopher

Notice the title of his book here!!!

Perhaps a more accurate title would have read - Juan Williams Canned by NPR "National Public Radio" for "Anti-Muslim" Remarks... ON FOX NEWS

Liberal commentator, Juan Williams, has been terminated by NPR for remarks made on Fox News's The O'Reilly Factor.  The Dem-apologist - who has made great strides in recent years toward a permanent move to the Right  - made comments regarding post-911 travel and was unceremoniously bounced from publicly funded radio.  Tax payer dollars at work right?  Free Speech in action?

You can see the comments at the center of the firing below.

Via BreitbartTV: Via Memeorandum:

In watching the clip, I have to say that it seems rather off-the-cuff and unrehearsed to me - certainly not reflective of some deep-rooted hatred or discriminatory tendencies.  While I wish he could have left out the obligatory - "you know I'm not a bigot but...." disclaimer, Williams was simply sharing a feeling of reservation felt by many every time they board a flight in the post-911 world.  That's not racist; that's not insensitive; that's not even counterintuitive.  Okay, it may technically be the first two, but its certainly not the latter.  While it may have been extremists who carried out those horrific acts that day, it was in fact still a group of Muslim extremists - and they weren't wearing special "terror gear" that told their fellow passengers the wild ride they had in store for them.

The reality is simple.  In the post-911 world that we now live in, we are told on a daily basis that we are supposed to; that we have a duty to; remain aware of suspicious activity and to alert the authorities when something seems out of the norm - to remain "vigilant."  Forgive me for being close-minded, but when someone tells me to "be on the lookout" for a someone fitting fill-in-the-blank description, I either contact authorities or get the hell out of there.  If someone has all the tell-tale signs of airborne Jihad, forgive me for sleeping with one eye open.  I really don't care if feelings get hurt.  While traditional Muslim garb may hardly even garner a reaction from me on an elevator or in line at the deli, similar attire on a Delta Flight will certainly get my attention, so if that makes Juan Williams a racist or even insensitive, lump me in and start the social reconditioning immediately because I need help.

New York Times:  NPR has terminated its contract with Juan Williams, one of its senior news analysts, after he made comments about Muslims on the Fox News Channel.

NPR said in a statement that it gave Mr. Williams notice of his termination on Wednesday night.

The move came after Mr. Williams, who is also a Fox News political analyst, appeared on the “The O’Reilly Factor” on Monday. On the show, the host, Bill O’Reilly, asked him to respond to the notion that the United States was facing a “Muslim dilemma.” Mr. O’Reilly said, “The cold truth is that in the world today jihad, aided and abetted by some Muslim nations, is the biggest threat on the planet.”

Mr. Williams said he concurred with Mr. O’Reilly.

He continued: “I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous."

NPR said in its statement that the remarks “were inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR.”

Alicia C. Shepard, the NPR ombudswoman, said at the time that Mr. Williams was a “lightning rod” for the public radio organization in part because he “tends to speak one way on NPR and another on Fox.”

Ms. Shepard said she had received 378 listener e-mails in 2008 listing complaints and frustrations about Mr. Williams.

How bout we all send an email a day complaining about one of their Lefty commentators and see if we can clean house with all of them by this time next year.  Take my 365, and all 13 or so of you depending on my traffic today, and maybe just maybe NPR can do some actual reporting of the news in latter months of 2011.

From Michelle Malkin -  Guess who stirred up the pot to get Williams fired?

Think Progress and the Huffington Post:

Another point worth thinking about here...  Isn't this the same crowd that always tells us that minorities can't be racists?

----------------------------------

A comment at Big Journalism asks this question

Are Juan Williams’ statements worse that Obama’s regarding his grandmother?

“My grandmother… is a typical white person. If she sees somebody on the street that she doesn’t know, there’s a reaction in her that doesn’t go away and it comes out in the wrong way.”

I know that other people on FR don’t like Juan, but I kinda like the Guy. Now when he wrong he is really wrong and I could ring the guy’s neck. But I have been in agreement with him on some issues, especially when he takes off the political glasses and uses his common sense. Just my humble opinion of the Guy.
NPR is so wrong with this, I never listen to NPR, so I am wondering if there has been. offensive anti-christian remarks and if so can we write anyone?

Soro's wants Glenn Beck but they got Juan instead.

I can see Soro's saying, "Not The Black Guy You Idiots. I paid A Million Dollars For This?"

Ha, Ha.

Now Juan is discovering what we knew all along: NPR is a hopelessly liberal taxpayer funded institution with NO courage, sense of humor or class. NPR should have been cut loose from public funds years ago for sins against the public good. It chose hard left opinions, friends and donors, and the steamroller of sneering liberal crap kept rolling for 4 decades.

NPR wouldn’t last a month in the free market. it should die a grisly death along with the National Endowment for the Arts.

ps: I’m an art lover.

I have also grown to like Williams, he seems to be more reasonable and open to ideas other than the Leftist doctrine. This ought to demonstrate to him how very tolerant the Left really is. Maybe we’ll pick up another convert.

I agree. Juan’s definitely some misguided. However,

This is totally a ploy by NPR to gain media attention.

I think it’s Foxphobia. NPR didn’t like Juan being on Fox, and this was the first time he’s crossed the line just barely enough for them to can him.

Fired because he admits being nervous when on a plane with people dressed like terrorists. Amazing. Can we fire NPR. What do we need them for?

Also on Fox tonight:

A recap of Whoopie Goldberg insisting that...
"They weren't muslims, they were extremists!"

(Extreme what Whoopsey?)

Since NPR is a government entity can they stifle free speech like this?

Omit but a single letter from the byline:

“Juan Wiliams caned by NPR”

As in whupped, spanked, or otherwise disciplined by the plantation overseer as a runaway....uh, you finish the thought.

Just sayin’.

Roger Ailes will probably give Juan his own show on FNC now. What NPR did was stupid, stupid, stupid ... Juan being let go from NPR is only going to HELP - HELP - Juan’s career.

I wonder if the Congress will actually start to cut off the money supply to all the Communist Front groups like NPR.

Juan is often an utter idiot. When Britt Hume was hosting the flagship news hour for FNC, he couldn't help himself many times from smacking down Juan's often moronic position. But, his stint at FNC has exposed him to another way of viewing the world, and he's not as big an idiot as he used to be.

I assume his firing is more of a terror strike on NPR staff who hang out at FNC than it is an honest expression of horror at his words. I believe Nina Totenburg was asked by NPR, perhaps a year ago or so, to quit appearing on FNC. She cut back her appearances, but still shows up now and then. However, I have noticed that she, like Juan, seemed to be on a trend line toward reasonableness, but since her warning from NPR she's reverted to progressive type.

Welcome to the reality of what happens when you don’t “stay on the plantation,” Mr. Williams. Will be interesting to see how you react to this experience.

Just to be clear, by “stay on the plantation,” I meant “stay on the Democrat/PC plantation.”

"I have also grown to like Williams, he seems to be more reasonable and open to ideas other than the Leftist doctrine."

Well I'm not ready to buy the guy a beer yet, but the other day on Special Report's panel he sounded down right Conservative when they were talking about Germanys "Failed Multiculturalism'" and the possible effects felt here in America from it.
