The Michigan Education Association's October magazine notes a large percentage of teachers nationwide that consider themselves "conservative."
It stated that a 2005-06 National Education Association survey found 45 percent of teachers under 30 classified themselves as conservative and 63 percent of teachers age 40 to 49 classified themselves as conservative. The MEA represents more than 157,000 teachers, faculty and education support staff.
Yet, in the same magazine, the MEA released its recommendations for political candidates and recommended 111 Democrats in 114 races. The only three GOP candidates to receive a recommendation were:
* State Sen. Roger Kahn of Saginaw, who is running for re-election * State House candidate Mike Callton of Nashville * State House candidate Peter MacGregor of Rockford
The overwhelmingly Democratic recommendations come at time when NEA president Dennis Van Roekel is preaching a message of non-partisanship.

MI ping on the MEA
Conservatives that are forced into Unions should try to take them over.

If such significant percentages of teachers consider themselves “conservative,” then why are public school pupils not being educated appropriately in American history, government, civics, and traditional values? Do they fear that they will lose their jobs if they teach things considered “politically incorrect”?
Excellent questions, justiceseeker93. As usual, however, I have no excellent answers.
But, I think you are right in putting quotes around "conservative". The first thing would be to ask these teachers what they mean when they identify themselves as "conservatives".
Second, I think that textbook chosen by the district might provide a partial of the answer to your questions. Some texts are far better than others.
Thanks, MCC!
That's because he thinks WE are as ignorant as the underseved school kids these people have been “teaching?”
Thanks for the ping. Anti-individual, anti-life, anti-America group-think, group-speak permeates the socialist indoctrination centers in this country. I taught in Detroit public schools for a couple of years when I graduated from college (not so noticeable then). For the decade of the ‘90’s I subbed in 2 school districts for extra income as I held a full-time afternoon position in the auto industry. Every day in one district, I took notes and de-programmed the high-school students after they were fed garbage for 15 minutes at the start of the school day from televisions mounted on the walls in each room via Channel 1 (Anderson Cooper and others). The students really enjoyed my counterpoint/additional-information commentary as part of their “learning”. The kudos from former students still come to this day.
FReeper holdonnow and his terrific foundation has done as much as anyone in America to expose and break the stranglehold of this most dangerous union.

Yes, they certainly do appreciate alternate viewpionts. As a sometime sub, I love seeing the grins on their shining little faces.
Thanks PGalt.
Thanks much for your very important work when you substitute teach, Maggie. I found that you can touch a whole lot of lives in a very short amount of time. I enjoyed every moment as I talked to the high school and middle school students (much more challenging) as young men and women.
As a conservative, I think it is one of the most important issues to take our schools back. They are turning out too many liberal, socialist indoctrinated children into our society.
If we are going to save our republic, we have to start with our children.
