And Grover Norquist, who is on the NRA board, is a terrorist.

Don't make the perfect the enemy of the good.

If a Democrat has a strong record on the Second Amendment, I see no reason why the NRA should not endorse them, all other things being equal.

That being said, as a lifetime member of the NRA I send the money I used to send to them to Gun Owners of America.

And money I used to send to the RNC I now send to individual conservative candidates.

Let's not act like Lefties and try to destroy anybody who isn't in lockstep with us.

NRA in political lobby that supports gun rights. They should be unbiased and support anyone that believes in the 2nd amendment. I don't know why some people on here think they are some pseudo-GOP PAC. You can join GOA, etc. but they don't have anywhere near the same clout the NRA does in DC. That's just a fact... I'm not saying the NRA is perfect far from it but open your mind a little.

Good post, IMHO, in every respect. As Reagan showed, if you want to win, set up a big tent.

"Every advocacy group has the same potential flaw built into their very design."

This doesn't apply to the NRA, which did not come into being as an "advocacy group". The NRA's charter was (and partially still is) to teach marksmanship and firearms safety. It was forced into becoming an advocacy group due to the anti-gun push from the left.

“This doesn’t apply to the NRA, which did not come into being as an “advocacy group”.

Correct, but not exactly correct. If you look at their current finances, the advocacy part is where the bulk of the money is raised. It also supports most of the infrastructure and most of the staff.

If the battle were “won” (i.e. another Constitutional Amendment that would absolutely guarantee the right of private ownership) how big do you think the NRA would be? Marksmanship and firearms safety wouldn’t support a staff one-tenth that size.

I should mention I am a life member because they are the best we’ve got. But the truth is still the truth.

The way America is going is reflected in the NRA the VFW and other such groups. When we swing America back to the right then they’ll naturally follow the crowd.

I pretty much agree with you, but I wanted to point out that there IS a constituency in the NRA other than just gun rights.

Certainly, once an organization that depends on donations "fixes" the problem they were organized to solve, they are loath to disband, hence the morphing of the American Tuberculosis Society (organized to help find a cure for tuberculosis) into the "American Lung Society" as just one of MANY examples.

And join the ranks of the irrelevant.

I am positive the only purpose of the GOA is to put out hit pieces on the NRA and raise money to pay the salaries of the GOA brass.

I invite you to find ONE article from the Brady Campaign, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, CeaseFire, or any other anti-gun organization directly acknowledging the existence of a “GOA” organization.

They don’t. Because GOA is irrelevant.

Exactly right.

More specifically, NRA is incumbent-friendly, which is the source of their clout.

When the majority of incumbents are Republicans, naturally, their tide will shift - by design.

Ann Coulter has some gall to speak at a Restoring America speech after speaking at that homo group's conference (GOPride, I think they're called). She lost all credibility by siding with homosexuals. I'm surprised that Restoring America didn't revoke her invitation after her sellout.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
