Is the NRA good for America?
coachisright.com ^ | OCTOBER 13TH, 2010 | Kevin “Coach” Collins

The increasing number of NRA endorsements of Democrats raises some questions.

Does anyone at the NRA understand political dynamics?

Does the governing board of the NRA really believe voting in congress happens in a vacuum free of any extraneous political influences such as threats to cut off campaign funds?

Perhaps more to the point; does the NRA have no concept of the sharply divergent mission of the Democrat Party as compared to the aims of freedom for all Americans?

Does the NRA actually believe that when the liberal Democrat dream of a soviet style gulag nation, made to stink less with a spray of cheap Western European cologne, is realized the Second Amendment won’t be the very first freedom to be taken away?

Given the reality that Democrats are socialists at best and Marxists at worst and both lie constantly, does anyone in the NRA truly believe that liberal Democrats are equally as trustworthy as conservative Republicans?

These inexplicable and sometimes very suspect endorsements demand the NRA be looked at in a different light as compared to just a few years ago.

The NRA’s self delusion that it can separate its single issue from the greater picture of America’s freedoms has cast a reasonable doubt about whether the NRA is any longer good for America.

The number of such Democrat incumbents the NRA has endorsed has risen to fifty eight with no apparent end in sight. It’s now clear More..

We have to focus on the NRA the VFW and other such groups right after the elections.

Every advocacy group has the same potential flaw built into their very design:

If they are entirely successful in their goals, the will become extinct.

If they are moderately successful - but not completely successful - they can continue to draw members but not become unnecessary.

Eventually, consciously or unconsciously, they chose a path that guarantees preservation.

I hope a winning Republican will call the NRA out on election night in his or her congratulatory speech.

...many large advocacy groups have been co-opted by liberals and diverted from their original intent to become organs of progressivism.

They include such organizations as the Girl Scouts, the United Way, the American Association of Pediatrics, the Episcopal Church, the United Methodist Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELCA), the American Baptist Church (ABC), the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA)...

...there’s no reason to believe that this couldn’t happen to the NRA as well. Democrats are progressive liberals, and as a result, hostile to gun rights.

Last night we went to the Restoring America conference to listen to Ann Coulter give a speech. Since I work 2nd shift I had to ask for some time off to go. All of the bosses and office people work days so when I was asking for time off I mentioned to at least 2 dozen people that they could see Ann Coulter for free that evening. You would have thought I landed on another planet by mistake. Nobody had ever heard of her! After I returned to work from the speech I told some of my fellow night shift workers and they didn’t know her either.

Because we spend so much time on sites like this we tend to think that everybody knows the people we know. It couldn’t be further from the truth, most people don’t have a clue. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the NRA and VFW didn’t know squat about any political candidates other than the narrow range of issues that represent their interests.

The theme of the Restoring America conference pretty much sums it up. That is aimed at Evangelicals. According to them 65 million americans call themselves Evangelicals. Out of those 65 million only 35 million are registered to vote and out of that 35 million less than half will show up at the polls. Increasing this one voting block could dramatically change the course of American politics, yet the apathy is breathtaking. So don’t be surprised if you find that these other organizations are as apathetic as the rest of the populace.

I respectfully disagree, for two reasons:
-There are areas where a Democrat is going to win anyway, it might as well be a Democrat who supports RKBA. I also have friends who are quite liberal on other issues but support the RKBA; anyone who wants to support the Republican candidate directly can certainly do so.

-An (R) after ones name does not ensure a proper approach to RKBA. I want pressure on all Republicans so that we RKBA supporters are *NOT* taken for granted. I don’t care how ‘right’ someone is on any other issue, if they do not support the RKBA to hell with them.

In short, I think the NRA does its job best by simply supporting the candidate most in support of RKBA, there are plenty of other opportunities to support socially and/or fiscally conservative candidates. I want the NRA to keep a tab of who is most strongly in favor of the RKBA and support that candidate, period.

Mission Statement

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) is dedicated to promoting a better understanding about our Constitutional heritage to privately own and possess firearms. To that end, we carry on many educational and legal action programs designed to better inform the public about the gun control debate.

It’s not the job of the NRA to help elect Republicans. It’s the job of the NRA to protect the Second Ammendment.

If in any race the Democrat was more pro-2A, I would expect the NRA to endorse that Democrat.

Think about it for a moment. If the NRA only endorsed Republicans, then soon moderate Democrats would begin to think: Why bother defending the Second Ammendment? It won’t help me, it can only hurt me.

Now, if the NRA endorses a Democrat over a more pro-2A Republican, that’s another story entirely.

You’ve got a point there. If the NRA endorses a Democrat because of of his/her Second Amendment views, the NRA had better be VERY sure the Dem is not going to abandon the 2A the day after the election.

NRA donations to dems sharply diminishes my urge to give to the NRA. In fact, the urge has passed completely away.

I became a Life Member of the NRA in 1977 and upgraded to an Endowing Member in 2004. For the last five or ten years I’ve been a Golden Eagle, contributing $200 or more per year to the NRA for its political activities. Not being a hunter, my reason for that membership and support has been the NRA’s heretofore firm support of the Constitution and conservative values.

Its actions this year in selling out to support the DISCLOSE Act and supporting more than fifty of the most vulnerable DemonRats are despicable. Indeed, they are directed at preventing what could be one of the greatest Republican victories in history and one of history’s greatest peaceful repudiations of totalitarianism. I am so disgusted that I will not give it any more money for any general political activities until and unless it completely cleans house and purges all of the Trojan Horse rotters who’ve penetrated it.
