We have a lot of transition at this point here, said one senior Obama aide. They decided the time was right to bring forward his departure and for Jones to step aside. We always knew it was going to be roughly in this window, at the end of this year. But were making a lot of changes now with Rahm leaving, and there was a sense of just, Lets get this done now.
But there was more to the timing than the ripple effects of Rahms departure.
Next month President Obama begins to travel again overseas, and in December he begins the critical process of reviewing his new Afghan strategy. Jones was one of the architects of the last extensive review a year ago, leading to the deployment of an extra 30,000 troops. It made little sense that he would leave directly after an Afghan review that could determine the legacy of this presidency.
Frankly, a lot of what the December review is about is the next phase now, said the senior Obama aide. So it would be good to have a new structure in place as we make those decisions.

Thou shalt not speak ill of the One; Woodward claims another scalp.
Time to find a trustworthy advisor, one who knows how the POTUS thinks...Gotta be black too, that’s only fair after all.
Looks like our troops just got the shaft.
Can one person explain to me WHY one more U.S. Soldier should have to die in Afganistan under this CIC?
There is no doubt Obama is about to give up on Afghanistan, he will announce a drawdown and pull out to take place over his last two years in office. Then he will dare Republicans to fight him on it.... It is exactly the tactic that Saul Alinsky would approve of.
In other words, Obama is determined to tuck in America's tail and get out of Afganistan before the 2012 elections and he doesn't want Jones in the way as this unfolds. Even more than before, Obama is surrounding himself with more dedicated "Yes men". No good will come of this for America.
The troops are needed at home to fight against the obamibots.
So it would be good to have a new structure in place as we make those decisions.
Can you explain to me why the Pentagon doesn’t do “Seven Days In May?” for real?
Clearly, President Obama is a traitor, and the military has swore a sacred oath to support and defend the Republic from all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC.
Will James Mattoon Scott please pick up the gold phone?

You’re right.
Considering a LtC Lakin... And the retired military brass are all behind him.... Has called into question the constitutionally of the current CIC. Lakin is being denied the abiliy to defend himself, and Obama proves he Constitutionally Eligible........ But the Judge denies discovery because it would embarras the President??? EMBARRAS him? WTF!? Srsly nao.
You telling me it’s worth having the military suddenly unable to do anything.... If plus cannot prove his eligibility, he must be replaced immediately. WTH could be THAT embarrassing? That it’s worth paralizing the military for??
Something constitutionally embarrassing ?
Like not a NBC?
Right now the uncertainty is very close to doing just that. Is that the point? To paralyze our Military? Is that it? That is what it’s doing.
It has to stop. It must be dealt with.
