What does Illinois Tea Party candidate Michael Labno have to do to get some attention around here? Does he have to be more like Christine ODonnell: should he make some bizarre comment about meatballs, get caught buying vibrators and boil some frogs?
Or does he have to be more like Illinois Republican candidate Mark Kirk: shall he create an imaginary life story where he single-handedly killed Osama bin Laden with his .50 caliber sniper rifle, was awarded a medal of honor and then devoted his life to reading fairytales to nursery school students?
On October 5, 2010, Rasmussen Reports announced that a statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Kirk picking up 45% of the vote, while Giannoulias earns 41% support. Four percent (4%) back Green Party candidate LeAlan Jones. Another five percent (5%) prefer some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided.
Rasmussen cannot justify its failure to name the some other candidate who has 1% more support than Jones. Disappointing. Rasmussen had a duty to name Labno in the interest of fairness to all parties, to ensure more accurate reporting by the media, and because voters rely heavily on polling numbers to help them make a decision.
Labno shouldnt be ignored for his lack of wack.
Warning to Republicans (or those who are considering voting Republican): If you vote for Mark Kirk, you will be voting for a liberal. So, if you are going to vote for a liberal, then make it easier on yourself and simply vote for Alexi Giannoulias, since hes the real Democrat.
Wait, before you get all worked-up and accuse me, an Illinois Democrat, of trying to persuade the right to lean left, please continue reading because my point has zilch to do with Giannoulias I simply want to make sure that the person you vote for accurately and properly represents you.
Michael Labno may be your guy, instead of Mark Kirk. Why?
Kirk is a Republican. Or is he? Kirk voted to allow the government to confiscate your legally owned firearm in the event of a national emergency. He is pro-choice, saved millions in funding for Planned Parenthood and was just one of 17 Republicans to vote to fund abortions for female inmates. Kirk is for cap and trade and voted for TARP not once, but twice.
Labno is a self-proclaimed recovering Republican; three years sober, officially. He wonders why we still havent found Osama bin Laden and is disappointed with the Republicans support of the bailouts. He wants small businesses and community banks to thrive again. He is pro-life and pro-guns. Labno owns his positions and he hasnt manufactured his qualifications or made up outlandish stories to gain support.
Fred Newbrough, one of Labnos Facebook friends, wrote, We are tired of the same old games by the GOP Kirk is the most horrible candidate imaginable for the Senate. He isnt even reliably fiscally conservative. The good thing is that you, Mike, are in the race. Illinois has a real choice: a Tea Party choice, a conservative choice, a libertarian choice.
Illinois voters, before you allow a senator to drive you to Washington, make sure some other candidate isnt hidden in a blind-spot; otherwise, he may crash before you even get to your final destination.
Congratulations. You get the winning post for the most logic and reason expressed on this subject on this entire thread. Well said and well reasoned. I wish others had your pragmatism and reason. As I always try to express, better to take half a plate of what you want sometimes than a full plate of what you don’t, which is what we’d get from the Dem. candidate in this race. The time to have gotten more was during the primary—that was over in February. Time to close ranks to keep one more vote out of the hands of the Dems who did so much damage while in control of the Congress these last 4 years.
I dismissed it because I know the man and his record. What makes you think he’ll move to the right in the Senate given his hatred for Conservatism ? So I take it you agree with his positions on infanticide, a gun-grabber, being pro-illegals and the like ? Again, why should a Conservative support someone who lies repeatedly, fakes his military record, and votes a left-wing course ? That is the kind of person we’re running against in Connecticut named Blumenthal.
What makes me think he’ll switch parties ? Because that’s what Mark Kirk would do. If you knew the man, his character and his record instead of dismissing what everybody else who knows him tries to tell you, you wouldn’t need to pose the question. Unlike you, I don’t support any trash just because they wear an “R” label for convenience. I pray Kirk loses, not just for the good people of Illinois, but for the sake of our Senate caucus. We don’t need another Benedict Arnold.
Yes ! Let’s keep the seat out of Democrat hands by voting for a Republican who votes exactly like a Democrat ! Brilliant ! You should be nominated for a Nobel Prize !(after all, you only need advocate leftism to win one). ;-)
We can also go sit on McConnel's doorstep and tell him to take the RINOs off the influential seats on the committees.
Illinois conservatives do not owe to others outside our state the permanent removal of the Illinois GOP from ideological competition here. The unique level of bipartisan corruption that is Illinois calls for different methods than are called for in other states. The first priority here must be the destruction of Mark Kirk and his fellow Demonrats in GOP drag.
If it is any comfort, I will not vote third party. That would only be a half vote. I will vote for Giannoulias and make that a full vote since he is almost certain to wind up in jail sooner rather than later like our last two governors. We will elect a conservative governor Bill Brady for a change and he will get to appoint to the vacancy. Even if Giannoulias in a stunning upset manages to stay out of jail, he is not as clever as the evil Mark Kirk and will have far less staying power. We will make up for Kirk by electing actual Republicans elsewhere now, in 2012 and 2014 and beyond. Kirk will not vote for the babies, for marriage, for guns, for the military, for weapons, or for Western Civilization in general. We don't need numerical control of the Senate for the last two years of Obamunism. We need a supermajority by the 2012 election results to empower a new POTUS and ram through his judicial appointments.
When I lived in Connecticut, I had the privilege of helping pry Lowell Weicker out of his Senate seat. Lieberman has his drawbacks but is a far better senator and patriot than Weicker ever dreamed of being. Hopefully, we will defeat Kirk and remove him from public life once and for all.
There are a cornucopia of reasons for destroying Kirk and I tire of repeating them on thread after thread. Suffice it to say that, if you understood Illinois's unique politics and knew what slime Kirk is you would agree with those working to end his career.
Labno splits the conservative vote with Giannoulias and NOT with Kirk. No self-respecting conservative would be caught dead or alive voting for Lavender Markie.
Like Grunthor, I prefer that leftist quislings in public office be Demonrats and, I would add, brainless ones at that. Giannoulias fills the bill.
BINGO!
Would lavender Markie's vote for Cap 'n' Tax be an example of that "fiscal conservatism?" I don't want $5-7 a gallon gasoline or similar run ups for heating fuel just to satisfy the brie and chablis set in both parties. If he voted for Cap 'n' Tax while he was already the GOP Senate nominee but facing election, just imagine what a wonder he would be AFTER being elected to a six year term. Thanks, but no thanks.
Also, if we have to choose between social conservative and fiscal conservative (lavender peace creep gungrabber Markie is neither), I'm going with social conservative every time. If your taxes rise, then you would be better advised to remember to see to it that mere fiscal "conservatism" (if there is such a thing) is NOT enough. Markie certainly is $#!t though. No sense arguing against that insight. If we must have $#!t, let it be Demonrat $#!t, the brand name item.
Worth repeating:
“I’d rather have a plate of 58% of what I want than a plate of 100% of what I don’t—which none of you absolutists can ever refute with your “burn the village in order to save it” mentality.”
~MissesBush
In any event FReegards.
damn fine post
Bears repeating: I’d rather face the enemy in front of me than have them knife me in the back.
Illinois Demonrats do not have anything like a veto-proof majority in either house now. They sure as hell won't have such a majority in either house after the 2010 election. Nothing short of a veto-proof majority would be able to take away the power of appointment from the governor.
The majority in the Senate is not as important now as it will be in two years. We can stop treaties, judicial nominations, with two more years of "Just Say No!"
Finally, I have lived in Illinois for ten years and fieldmarshaldj's analysis is on target.
You're the one hoping the democrat wins, not me.
If you think Alexi would have a more conservative voting record in the Senate than Kirk, then you're beyond hope.
>> Lets keep the seat out of Democrat hands by voting for a Republican who votes exactly like a Democrat !<<
At this point we need anyone with an R behind their name. If the Republicans dont get a majority even the very conservatives that get elected will not have the voice to do anything. It does us no good to have truly conservatives in Congress if they have no voice because the majority is still Democrat.
“I have seen posts here claiming that Kirk is also Gay, is that true??????????????”

Queer as a three dollar bill.
Of our two major party candidates, Giannoulias is merely a dumb mobbed up ex-banker. Kirk is an enemy of Western Civilization. Take the gangster every time. kIRK IS "BADDER."
See fieldmarshaldj's post and link at 9. Maelstrom is right. Illinois is what it is and what it is requires Kirk's elimination from public life BECAUSE, among many other things, he claims to be "Republican."
I live in Illinois, I'll vote once for Labno for me, and once for "fieldmarshaldj"
If the rats can vote more than once, so can I.
It does us no good to have a Socialist Combiner RINO who can hold the entire GOP Senate caucus hostage to his leftist agenda, precisely what Kirk will do.
;-)
“The Tea party in Illinois needs to get serious and start winning primaries and stop throwing tantrums. And above all else stop splitting votes. They split the vote in the primary and that is why we have Kirk in the first place. Now they want to split the vote in the general and hand the election to the dems on a silver platter.”
I said the same thing after the primaries. Too many conservative candidates ran, and split the vote. The battle should be fought in the primaries. Get our act together and put up one strong conservative. In the general election, I’ll hold my nose and vote for Kirk. No way should Ali G be given a Senate seat, especially with the current occupant of the White House.
