Bought a KA-BAR in 1968 and used it as a Scoutmaster for 12 years. It’s always with me to this day in the door pouch of my vehicle with the same great dependable edge.
My working knife is my folding Buck that is about 15 years old.

The one that does the job.
KA-BAR has really updated their product line lately.
Their Kukri Machete is really well made even though it is made overseas they are really keep close watch on the quality.
Their Bowie knife is outstanding, I use it all the time and it is big great for cutting through the rough stuff.
The KB3 Tac Tool is really useful as well.
Of course I have the USMC short knife - I think I will be buried with that one.
I am amazed at how well their edges keep.
I have never been disappointed.
That’s the one, though mine is the variant with a stud on both the true and false sides, and is black.
I have a US Divers Nordic dive knife. I bought it in the PX in 1972 for $10. It’s half knife, half hammer, and half crowbar. I’ve used it as a commercial diver, an infantryman and a hunter. It will outlive me and go to some member of my family after I’m gone.
[If you dont want to reach in up to your elbows, and feel compelled to split the sternum in the field, any good sharp ~5 knife will do. Stay away from stainless steel as it wont hold an edge.]
Ive never heard this one. Ive heard folks complain that a large stainless knife will break if used like an axe, but never that it wont hold an edge. Maybe if youre using a 420 stainless steel but the newer stainless steels dont have a problem holding an edge. You however might have a problem giving one an edge as they are super hard. Dont even think of using an Arkansas stone to sharpen one. Get a knife with S30V steel and some ceramic stones to maintain the edge.
Everybody ought to have a Buck 105 and 110 in their collection. I’ve got a numbered, limited-edition 110 folder with a leather-sided handle. Its a thing of beauty. Lovin it. :-)
Walmart has a pretty good selection of Ken Onion designed Kershaw folders.
I have several. Aus-8 Swedish steel blades, scary sharp.
American made. $40-$50.
WR Case is the best. I have one that uses heavy interchangeable blades and it is sharper than a razor blade.
It does, but hunting would be about the last thing I'd need a knife for. However, I do try to carry several edged tools on me at all times for unforeseen circumstances.
I have a Victorinox little Swiss knife with 1GB of USB memory on it. And little scissors. A Marfione titanium "credit card knife" in my wallet with my cards. And a Benchmade small assisted opener in my pocket.
I normally don't have much need for a fixed-blade knife unless I'm away from home for a while. I have a BKT Tactool in the door pocket of my truck, mainly as a rescue tool. I also have an American Tomahawk Vietnam-style tomahawk in the back-of-the-seat pocket on the passenger side, mainly to help others overcome their road rage.
In the woods, I carry a large lockback like a big CRKT M16 series, and a small sheath knife, like an Ontario Rat 3 in D2 steel. And I stash folding surgical prep knives in all the little survival kits that I build and put in odd pockets of outdoor clothes.
