Sloppy Shooting

The more we learn about this business of Meg Whitman, Republican gubernatorial candidate in California, supposedly hiring an undocumented worker as a domestic the more we have to ask ourselves, how on earth did Gloria Allred ever become known as a hotshot attorney?

The letter from the Social Security Administration that Allred cites as damning proof of Whitman’s wrongdoing does no such thing. Read for yourself:

"This letter does not imply that you or your employee intentionally provided incorrect information about the employee’s name or SSN. It is not a basis, in and of itself, for you to take any adverse action against the employee, such as laying off, suspending, firing, or discriminating against the individual. Any employer that uses the information in this letter to justify taking adverse action against an employee may violate state or federal law and be subject to legal consequences. Moreover, this letter makes no statement about your employee’s immigration status."

If anything, that letter would scare most folks off from doing anything even if the employee didn’t produce the requested proof of legal status. It’s essentially a case of damned if you do and damned if you don’t. But Allred apparently didn’t read that paragraph because she says in her email which is reproduced immediately below the SSA document at the TMZ site:

“A mismatch of a Social Security number to an employee’s name is a clue that the employee may be undocumented.”

Notice that legal weasel word may. Also notice that Allred makes this contention in direct contradiction to an explicit warning that such information is not to be used as a basis for making any such inference. What part of basis do you suppose grandstanding Gloria doesn’t understand? My legal training is limited, but Greta van Susteren, who is a lawyer, absolutely ate Allred’s lunch last night on her show. (Video at link)

Allred has misrepresented the truth and her supposed client. If this domestic worker being exploited has any sense at all she’ll hire another attorney and sue the hell out of Allred for legal malpractice and placing her in legal jeopardy. And for this kind of legal sloppiness Gloria gets the big bucks?

Someone should tell Gloria and the Democrats that when the only thing you’re hitting is your foot, put the gun down and step away

Whitman hired the housekeeper through an accredited employment service which specifically verified her legal immigration status.
That is all that needs to be known about the case.

Follow the money. This ILLEGAL criminal, not undocumented has been paid either in some cash or other-kind form to create this non-crisis.

This is such an obviously contrived attack on Meg Whitman, so transparent, it gives me a little more confidence in her that the left are so afraid of her. Jerry Brown must be desperate to pull a stunt like this.

I imagine it won't take 5 minutes for Breitbart to find out who is funding this.

Also I find it amusing that after decades of pounding Californians with the rights of illegals they expect us to be offended that Meg Whitman paid her illegal housekeeper $25/hr for 9 years. I pay my housekeeper $8/hr. I'd be a housekeeper for $25/hr!

It's racist to ask for papers for everyone but Meg Whitman? Idiots.

Whitman worked for Jerry Brwon, nuff said. What happeneds to this housekeeper after November 2nd, The fact that her illegal status was brought to light may never have happened if she wasn’t offered alternative if she did. where is the outcry from latinos? This is abuse for political gain.

That paragraph is sickening. It's the feds basically telling an employer that "we know your employee is illegal but don't you dare do anything about it."

Vaughn is exactly right. Allred comes across as a complete idiot. She has come across in these interview shows as a “deer-in-the-headlights” neophyte. It struck me watching her: “Why does she keep coming back for more”?

She knows Janet Napolitano became famous as Anita Hill’s attorney. Allred’s antics are a part of her campaign to become the next Secretary of Defense.

“Allred’s antics are a part of her campaign to become the next Secretary of Defense.”

She's unprincipled, a media whore and always represents the scumbag side of any issue. I'd say she'd fit in perfectly almost anywhere in the Odumbo administration. Maybe she's trolling for the ballerina's position?

While I was still working at the Social Security Administration Headquarters in Woodlawn, Md some 20 years ago, they had a meeting at which the then Commissioner made the ruling that: “The term alien will no longer be used within the administration unless you are referring to little green men from Mars!” I really believe that they don’t want the “undocumented guest workers” who are paying into the system, as well as their employers, revealed as it would cut down on the funds coming into the Ponzi scheme.
