DeMint recently denounced the mandate in the Senate bill as follows:
Not only is an individual mandate unconstitutional, but it will increase premiums for hard-working Americans further making insurance coverage unaffordable and will force more people onto government-run programs.
But during the presidential primaries, DeMint endorsed the health care plan Romney developed as Governor of Massachusetts, calling it innovative and claiming he supported Romney because he believes all Americans should have a health plan that they can afford, own and keep. __________________________________

Thanks for that reply to the topic.
My question is not: Do we support Mitt? Do we support Obomneycare? It’s how can we prop up other conservatives as heros when they’ve been supporters in the past of the stuff we’re really fighting?
Demint on romney
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/03/15/demint-not-sold-on-romney-as-2012-approaches/
DeMint told CNN Monday he isn’t sure he’ll endorse Romney this time around - even though Romney was recently in South Carolina raising money for the senator’s re-election bid.
“Mitt is still near the top of my list of candidates, but I want to look and see who steps up to the plate,” DeMint said after a fundraiser with Florida Senate candidate Marco Rubio. “Frankly I think we need to wait until after the 2010 election to see what happens in Congress.”
Asked to name some candidates he might support instead, DeMint pointed to Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, marking the second time he has floated
Thanks for the heads up. It isn't an 'attack' to point out a legislators record.
Jim,
Please help me have a useful discussion. My question is not: Do we support Mitt? Do we support Obomneycare? Its how can we prop up other conservatives as heros when theyve been supporters in the past of the stuff were really fighting?
Mitt Romney is loved by the Tea Party? Huh? What do you get paid by Romney? 6.25 an hour?
interesting quote....
“”I don’t want to be president,” DeMint told reporters. “The fact is, anyone who really wants to be president right now doesn’t understand how much trouble we are in as a country.”
For crying out loud!
Are “we” already reduced to Romney bashing, once removed?
I’d have been much more entheusiastic about a Romney campaign than the McCain campaign.
Let’s face it, our entire 2008 slate was pretty uninspiring.
If Jim’s backing of Romney is the worst you can say about him, then I am suspect of your motives for the reach.
If the GOP runs with Romney....they sign their own dead certificate.
Excellent...Kick ‘em all out. I am tired of “politically savvy”
Jim DeMint, like a lot of prominent GOPers, couldn’t have sat out on an endorsement in 2008? He was one of the earliest supporters. He didn’t say “Well, Mitt’s just the least of the evils.” He was out there very early with Romney.
“Still, DeMint is more conservative than just about any other perspective candidate, so my disagreement with him on this one aside, I would gladly support him should he decide to run. Mike Pence would be another one who would get my attention.”
Agreed. I also like Paul Ryan, although the last (only?) President from the HoR was Gerald Ford and that through the VPOTUS route first. What about Palin, Bachmann, et al?
Yep - I would rather vote for Hitlary.
At least she is so despised, she would get noting done.
The problem with DeMint is backing Romneycare, not neccesarily just Romney’s 2008 campaign.
Well the part where we get "series"...is classic.
I can't believe Mitt is liked by the majority of Tea Party folks.
Thank you Jim! Behind you all the way on this one!
I didn’t say he is liked by a majority. I didn’t mention any amount. I just said he is liked less here than in the overall tea party movement.
I think you follow the future of the party enough to know that lots of other potential conservatives have been named. Those three are just the most notable ones at the moment.
I figured the responses would turn into “You back Mitt!” and not adressing whether or not we should really hail DeMint when he’s been right with Mitt in the past.
***If Jims backing of Romney is the worst you can say about him, then I am suspect of your motives for the reach.**
When discussing anyone named ‘Jim’ please include the last name.
It took me several attempts to realize you mean Jim DeMint not Jim Robinson.
In tepid defense of RomneyCare - it was not a Federal mandate - did not attempt to destroy Insurance companies, take over physicians’ practices & hospitals, or dictate medical care.
On Jim DeMint’s strange comment about others wanting to be POTUS and not realizing how bad the situation is ...????? That is very shallow thinking.
