I asked Jim Robinson today to delete my account on Free Republic. He asked me to post an opus so some folks would not think that I was banned for no reason. Here is my brief opus:
Thank you Free Republic and Good Bye. This was an excellent forum for many years but now I do not think it is so in my humble opinion. The trend where the forum is going is very clear to me and I do not want to be part of it.
For all the Freepers with whom I have had good relationship and great discussions I want to thank you for all the good time we had together on this forum.
God Bless America and Our Brave Troops.
PS: Now Jim Robinson can ban my account.
And you know, I realize my date says 2004, but I was a FReeper when 9/11 happened, under a different name, but when we moved here I couldn’t recall my password and I resigned up under a different name. Or something like that. I’m not me anymore.
LOL can’t believe it took 277 posts for someone to think of that!
One could enter "Abu Sayyaf" and then get news articles from around the world about this group and alQueida. Oftentimes the articles were dated one day ahead of USA date because of the time difference.
Now there's Newspaperindex.com, but it's not as facile as the original.

It's very clear that he considers most of us new comers to be morans (Yes I know I misspelled morons, but it's an inside joke)and that Free Republic has fallen from the once noble heights.
I’m sorry but that is freaking hilarious. I love the wit.
I see.Thanks Pelham.
Then stay off the pitbull threads!
I don't think that's because of some limits of news posting. We can always post headlines, and most of the time we can post excerpts of real news stories.
But it appears that a lot of freepers think there is some prize for the most created threads or something. Well, more likely they really think what they have to say about something is extremely important, so if they see a story posted with more than a few comments, they just re-post it so they can make their comments the top.
Or if they are clever, they find another news article about the same story, so they don't get called for "duplicates".
There are of course also the blog pimps, which are encouraged because it drives up readership here, but it means we get lots of replicated stories where a blogger just posts the story to their blog and posts the blog here.
And there are the financial hucksters. Don't know if they get money or not, or if they really just are interested in spreading end-times information for the sake of it. But it means we get dozens of posts from financial blog sites (where I am certain money is involved) that are called "news" instead of "bloggers/personal".
I don't know why they aren't reclassified, but it's not my site. Maybe if people who just wanted to use the site to get news and comment on the conservative response gave more money in donations, we wouldn't have to have so many of these other types, who maybe give money in order to get access to freepers, who likely have money.
Bravo. Perfect response.
"YOU WANT A PIECE OF ME???"
Thanks, bookmarked.
I used to have a good one called “white raven news links’ or something like that.
Its been gone for years.
Um, pretty much......
Wow, cool story. I’m going to listen closer to that song, because as far as I can tell, it is pretty random. Maybe it does mean something. It is nice to listen to, but the lyrics are sort of...well..... random!
> “Sorry to read this thread, on an otherwise fabulous day in our nation.”
.
He didn’t see it as fabulous.
.
That’s Powers Boothe in the movie “Tombstone”. He plays the part of Curly Bill Brocius.
I cannot claim to know you, but i wish you the best. I cannot fathom why one would choose to leave such a valuable source of information and kinship as this one. I hope you reconsider. God Bless America, as well as you and your family.
LOL! Best post of this thread so far!
