I asked Jim Robinson today to delete my account on Free Republic. He asked me to post an opus so some folks would not think that I was banned for no reason. Here is my brief opus:

Thank you Free Republic and Good Bye. This was an excellent forum for many years but now I do not think it is so in my humble opinion. The trend where the forum is going is very clear to me and I do not want to be part of it.

For all the Freepers with whom I have had good relationship and great discussions I want to thank you for all the good time we had together on this forum.

God Bless America and Our Brave Troops.

PS: Now Jim Robinson can ban my account.

There was at least one recent thread where someone called him “John from Lebanon”, and though in the end it seemed more of a misunderstanding, it was emblematic of the lowering of the discourse that he seems to be complaining about.

There also has been, in addition to some rational and well-deserved criticism of the RNC and NRSC and NRCC, a lot of conspiracy theories pushed as if they were fact, from people who if you questioned them immediately launched personal attacks.

Again, it’s the primary, silly season.

2 years of Obama and a lock down on serious news will tend to do that to a forum.

Go browse the posted articles.
80% of them are from pseudo news sites or blogs.
I have seen 15 articles on what Michelle thinks of nutrition in 24 hours.

I must admit, FR has become boring in recent years , but I don’t think it is because of the members.

There is a serious lack of postable content out there.

Not necessarily, just the diversity of the population has changed. Remember, in the old days we had some very low IQ posters around too, Classy, Green eyed but low IQ posters. :->

Now we have people who may have very high IQ but communicate differently or have different frames of reference regarding belief. We’ve replaced our Kennedy truthers with whatever the conspiracy of the day truthers.

Kristinn, when you feel you have to put in your tag line the date of your freeper birth, when that same date can be found simply by putting the cursor on your name, it kind of lends credence to the charge that the IQ on FR is dropping.
