I asked Jim Robinson today to delete my account on Free Republic. He asked me to post an opus so some folks would not think that I was banned for no reason. Here is my brief opus:
Thank you Free Republic and Good Bye. This was an excellent forum for many years but now I do not think it is so in my humble opinion. The trend where the forum is going is very clear to me and I do not want to be part of it.
For all the Freepers with whom I have had good relationship and great discussions I want to thank you for all the good time we had together on this forum.
God Bless America and Our Brave Troops.
PS: Now Jim Robinson can ban my account.
You know - by sticking around, YOU can help off-set those of whom you speak.
I can gloss over all the shallow stuff here, but when I see your mane, I know I’ll be reading substance.
Why not have some second thoughts?
I rate this Opus at a 2.5
Nothing like pride ;’)

Because the sleeping tiger is awakening, you will see a larger number of average citizens participating in this forum. If your wisdom is being attacked, or the quality of threads lowered, then is it not up to you to continue on revealing the truth and raising the standard? Are you going to stay home and not vote?
I’m going to miss you greatly, Joseph. You’ve been a source of reliable information and thought but I see your point. Look me up should you return.
We all have bad days. We all have to deal with idiots from time to time. Not sure what your issue is, but I’d advise that you take a break from the computer for a few days/weeks and then give it another try. Best wishes either way.
All of you are Johny come latelys in my book.
jveritas is a good man. I hope he returns. We should not eat our dead.
I think we need to respect the fact that because our country is led by a band of arrogant idiot leftists, many of us have felt powerless to change the disastrous course we are on. Desperate times call for desperate measures. People are angry and jumpy and say things they might not have said ten years ago.
My concern has been for the flippant threats of sessesion from the union. Up to now I’d viewed it as silly at best and treasonous at worst.
However, when a member of the SCOTUS threatens to remove Quran-burning as protected free speech and make it a hate crime, one can see the end of the Republic upon us. I would not stand for such a ruling and would openly defy it.
That is one of the things wrong -- sometimes you can't talk things out here. I remember some thread in the past couple of weeks where jveritas was getting hit pretty hard, with some pretty stupid personal attacks, simply for expressing an opinion that didn't match the conventional wisdom.
Anyway, this comment probably sums up what jveritas sees as the problem here as much as any: I have to say that the IQ on the forum dropped due to the large number of idiots who joined in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Look at any stupid post and there is over 70% probability that it coming from members who joined in the last three years.
Whis was followed with this post: There is no solution. They have already taken over the forum with the full approval of Jim Robinson.
In my opinion there are times when freepers are given free reign to violate posting rules, specifically the one that says "Please: NO profanity, NO personal attacks, NO racism or violence in posts."
I love a rough-and-tumble argument, but a "no personal attack" rule is important to facilitate discussion of the issues. It seems that especially at elections, that rule is disgarded, but only against freepers who disagree with the party line. And responses in kind lead to suspension and banning.
Of course, people are responsible for their own feelings. I see no point in letting some anonymous ignorant bully get to you -- they are just words on a screen, and have no meaning in the real world except to signify the lack of maturity of the attacker.
But some people do get tired of it, and leave. They are usually those that are also seen as less pure in their beliefs, since it is that supposed lack of purity that makes them the targets of the roving gangs of attack dogs.
Me, I like my stalkers. It proves that people are reading. I wish freepers, especially who add useful information to the datastream, wouldn't be pushed out because they are not ideological enough, but it's a free country.
I'm certainly not going anywhere, although I imagine some would like me to. I don't encourage others to come here anymore though -- which is a shame, because I think the site used to be much more useful. Just my opinion, I'm sure others think the purges and purity tests make this a more useful site.
And of course, in the end, it's Jim's site, and he has a right to run it anyway he wants, and allow or disallow whatever he wants -- and anybody who doesn't want to live under those rules probably should leave.
I'm going to. You know why? It's because every last Republican running for any office, at any level, in every district and jurisdiction across this entire country is a RINO, that's why? In fact, I'm going to start a nationwide third party solely so I can split the vote and try to make every last Republican across all 57 states lose.
You will be missed.
Carry on.
Inquisition time!!!!! Ya-HOOOO!!!!!
“Howlin/Peach/nopardons”
I know! I know! The three witches from Macbeth!
“Fair is foul, and foul is fair: Hover through the fog and filthy air”
Is it the same reason as when Allegra left?
The Catholic Church never changes.
Evidence of the devolution of FR. JV is right.
Please reconsider.
You have a lot of friends here.
It is also just the nature of the movement of the Internet. When FR first started, fewer people had the internet, it was far more work and time consuming to be active on it, and the concept of Web 2.0 was years away. Now, every 5 year old has a computer and cell phone with web access, speeds are blazing, and no technical knowledge is needed at all. Natural result is a greater diversity of thought and attitude jumping in.
Now that we’ve come to a consensus, more or less, that Rinos are a toxicity, can we bring back some of the great freepers lost over the years to this age old argument?
