Probably the surest sign that Christine ODonnell was the right choice is the vitriol generated by her nomination. The Daily Beasts Matthew Yglesias personifies that vitriol with his unveiled attack on the Tea Party, The GOP, Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint and Odonnel.
His post-mortem assessment of Mike Castless failed nomination bid and Delawares primary leaves little doubt as to his bias. What is unclear is why he is so concerned with the destruction of the GOP. One would assume that such a cataclysmic event would rank high on his bucket list. Alas Yglesias does protest a little too much and his faux concern for the health of the Grand Old Party leads one to believe he may have an ulterior motive.
Lets indulge in a vivisection of the solicitous Matthew Yglesiass hit piece and see if we and assuage his fears.
Excerpts from The Daily Beast :
The upset in Delaware is the latest sign of a conservative civil war between work horses and show horses. Matthew Yglesias on how Palin and DeMint are destroying GOP dreams of a Senate majority.
Theres a natural ebb and flow to American politics, whereby parties thrown out of power find themselves re-energized by opposition and poised for a comeback. Certainly the American right had done a fair amount of energizing itself since the inauguration of Barack Obama. Its a trend conservatives have spent a fair amount of time celebrating over the past eighteen months, rather implausibly arguing that the rising chorus of Tea Party cranks would suddenly make possible the rollback of the welfare state theyve spent the past 30 years failing to achieve.

Just as long as she votes the vote.
Their audience sizes are seeking parity.
Ulysses Grant was a drunk and a failure in life until he led the Union Army to victory.
Didn't the DE GOP run O'Donnell before? They are obviously 'tards.
Nice find!
The free market at work? Who knew?
Running for office?

Hell, let's just round up all the drunken failures we can find and run them for office.
there are plenty already in office and plenty running for office.
Sure, but there was not that choice in DE. As there is not in all races.
Courage is indeed a cardinal virtue.
But it usually implies that someone chooses to do something that will result in no direct benefit to them while risking everything they have in order to do it - as a matter of moral principle.
Like the soldier who risks his life in battle for the common good, and who does not expect (or usually receive) any extra material benefits for putting his life on the line.
Running against Mike Castle was not much of a risk for someone who was unemployed and looking to make a name for herself, and being elected would certainly result in very direct benefits for an unemployed consultant: a guaranteed, high-paying job for 6 years.
Graduating from West Point and being promoted twice for bravery in the Mexican War was failure?
The business he started failed, and he probably felt like a failure before the Civil War - but he did more in his life before 1860 than most.
If only you would go after Coons’ flaws with the same fervor.
Its not an ideal world.
And a superannuated idiot who voted for the Obama Stilulus plan, Cap and Trade and to investigate Bush for impeachment over Iraq isn’t worthy of one nickle or dime or vote in support by any Republican or conservative.
Only people like Carl Rove and Chris Christie could POSSIBLY support such a loser.
I hope Castle enjoys a long retirement as far away as possible from political office - unless he wants to run as a Democrat which is probably what he is.
I wonder what election you were referring to.
Local elections often turn on local issues, but this time Obama and Obama’s policies will have a big impact and I'm sure that will happen in Delaware.
All too often conservative nominees loose elections because the machine GOP professionals not only refuse to support them, but because they actively assist the Democrats.
Rove’s actions and comments as well as those of Cornyn and his political action group with respect to O'Donnell’s victory demonstrate VERY WELL where RINOs stand on primaries:
IF THEY CAN'T WIN THEY DON'T WANT THE CONSERVATIVE TO WIN, so they can come back later, say “I told you so” and continue business as usual, pandering to and cooperating with, the enemies of our Republic on the other side of the aisle.
Seems to me like Christine really scares the establishment. They are playing the game of bashing their own nominee. If they had objections to her then I say field a better candidate instead of idiot Mike Castle. Mike turned out to be the person that Delaware Republicans didn’t want. But when an establishment candidate wins they want us to get behind the party. I say no way to doing that. Every race is different, but it seems like the Rinos want to help The Progressives win this race. They won’t get behind Christine.
So what is worse a 100% Obama-bot Republican or some upstart who is against all of the Obama agenda? The liberal disease won’t be hard to kill off and anti-liberals won’t win everywhere, but we must draw the line in the sand. I’d rather go down fighting. The RNC has no right to say who is the candidate people want. The election results spoke for themselves lastnight.
LOL funny
correction: I meant to say that the liberal disease wont be easy to kill off and anti-liberals wont win everywhere, but we must draw the line in the sand.
Could they be any worse than the class of scumbags we have now?!
Coons' positions on the issues are a matter of public record: he would be a terrible choice for Delawareans.
However, O'Donnell has a non-resume that is extremely easy to savage in any number of ways before you even enter the realm of typical Democrat dirty tricks.
She is weak candidate, and her campaign has its work cut out for it. I'd love for her to win the seat and add an R to the list of Senators - but as a thinking man I cannot count on it.
