Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Monday that it is introducing the first cell phone plan that uses the chain's own branding, further demonstrating its clout in getting special deals from wireless carriers.
The Wal-Mart Family Mobile service will run on T-Mobile USA's network. Unlimited calling and texting will cost $45 per month for the first line and $25 for each additional line for the family. The service will be offered starting next week in most of its stores across the nation.(continued)

This is interesting. There will be a lot of squealing from the major wireless carriers over the next few weeks I’m thinking.
Mrs. 2ndDivisionVet has the Straight Talk plan with the phone that’s a quasi-Smart Phone and is very happy with it and I don’t currently use one, so we’re going to look at this.
will the phones come with a mullet trimmer and valtrex dispenser installed?
You can get Sprint on a family plan w/unlimited data and messages, 3000 minutes, 6 PM evenings for under $60/user if you know where to look.
Isn’t $45 less than $60?
Not when data is added.
Walmart is charging $40/GB per phone for data on top of that price.
Unlimited data is included on the Straight Talk plan, so maybe we’ll stick with that... Hope they get some better phones that can take more advantage of that, though...
I still don’t have a cell phone. My price point is $25 for unlimited calling.
There are millions of phone consumers who don’t use data. I know many, especially older folks, who have no need for data plans.
Wal-Mart getting into the market is a huge move, and it does lower the bar in terms of cost.
My phone costs $80 + tax per year; then again, I only need it for emergencies, pertinent contact and message taking.
Good, prices have gotten ridiculous. Maybe better service and lower prices will make those billion $ campaign ads redundant
T-Mobile service sucks in my neck of the woods. I dumped them for Net10, 5 bars all the time now.
the second and subsequent phones in the family meet that price point under the Wal-Mart plan it would seem.
T-Mobile will lose money on every Wal Mart phone/service plan sold, but make it up in volume...
I love Wal-Mart
In San Diego WM has recently made inroads to carry produce (versus whining not to from unionized big name grocery stores here), I can now buy hass avocados for $.33 instead of a $1+.
Love it! Bring on the competition!
You got me beat. I spend about $100 a year with a Tracfone. I still have 500 or 600 minutes left after a year. Of course, the phone hasn’t grown attached to my ear either.
