This is nothing new. When we applied for a mortgage years ago, we were asked how we wanted to identify our race. I told the mortgage people we would not answer the question. They then told us that if we chose not to answer, they were required to do so on our behalf.

That would have been in direct contradiction of the published HUD documents at the time. The preference was to ALWAYS have race/ethnicity self identified.
