When looking back at the top car songs of all time, common themes include guitar-heavy odes to the joys of speeding and the call of the open road. Although, a more diverse list of themes and moods emerge as well. Cars are frequently used as metaphors for romantic conquests in rock lyrics, but they can also be a symbol of cultural pride, a measure of an economic divide, or a means of escape from a bleak lifestyle. As rated by AOL Radio listeners, we present the top car songs.

Ford Probe
For the story line alone, not to mention chord construction, counterpoint and vocal harmonies(and it was written by a lawyer).
My personal favorite: Fun, Fun, Fun - The Beach Boys (or now, the Beach Old Guys...lol)
She’s real fine, my 409.
99 bottles of beer on the wall...
No Mabelline by Chuck Berry in that top 10? That is a bogus list.
Little Ford Probe,
you're really looking fine...
No, that's not it.
Saved my pennies and I saved my dimes...
No, that's not it.
Maybe we can have a contest to come up with a song for the Ford Probe.
1) Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf
2) Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen
3) Sh-Boom - Crew Cuts
4) Roll on Down the Highway - BTO
5) Radar Love - Golden Earring
Note that nothing by "The Cars" made the cut. $:-)
GMTA. $;-)
At a used car lot on the edge of town
A liberal guy and a liberal gal
Buy a Yugo
And they drive with pride
Cause if there's one thing that this world needs
It's environmental friends who'll take the lead
In a Yugo
They say, "people don't you understand
Those suburbans are ruining the land"
But they'll wish they had a full size van one day
They point fingers at you and me
They say we're too blind to see
But do we simply use our heads
And choose another way?
As those small wheels turn
Fifty miles to the gallon
And their knees on their chest
They're gonna save enough gas
For all of the rest
In a Yugo
Then one day on the interstate
They suddenly lose control
They swerve to miss a baby duck
They're squashed beneath a produce truck
But they drove with pride...
And as the crowds drive past a little flat car
You know they saved a lot of gas
But they didnt get far
In a Yugo
And as they're trapped inside
At a used car lot on the other side of town
A liberal guy and a liberal gal
Buy a Yugo....
And they drive with pride...
How good can such a list be if it doesn’t include Hot Rod Lincoln?
I looked at the list. Most of those aren’t car songs. Ugh. “Chevy Van”?! You’ve GOT to be kidding, AOL!
How ‘bout “Be Thankful for What You Got”? William DeVaughn’s one hit wonder about a Caddy Pimpmobile, from the early 70s.
The Beach Boys’ “Don’t Worry Baby”? The racer’s anthem about a supportive girl friend, instead of the typically jealous bee-otch.
OK, he’s a lib, but Springsteen’s acoustic version of “Born to Run” certainly resonates.
“Dead Mans Curve”? “Last Kiss”? “409”?
Man. I must be getting old.
They missed “Thunder Road”
Radar Love (Golden Earing)
Passenger (Iggy Pop)
Diamonds on My Windshield (Tom Waitts)
Hot Rod Lincoln (Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen)
Something about a Little Nash Rambler...
