This is a great post; took a lot of thought and time. Re the granting of toleration, I tried to explain to a group of my friends why tolerance is BAD, not good.
John Leland, a friend of James Madison and the leader of the Baptists in Virginia in the 1700s, said, “The liberty I contend for is more than toleration. The very idea of toleration is despicable; it supposes that some have a pre-eminence above the rest to grant indulgence, whereas all should be equally free, Jews, Turks, Pagans and Christians.”
