If they get control of Congress the GOP will try and mostly succeed in enlisting the Tea Party movement in confrontations with President Obama. Among other things, they will hold noisy hearings on red-meat hot-button issues, but will be extremely cautious and selective about holding actual accountability-generating roll call votes on them. Expect no roll call votes on systemic-change issues that challenge the political class itself (like repealing McCain-Feingold's restrictions on political speech, for example, or imposing term limits).
As in 1995, the budget will generate an unavoidable confrontation between a GOP Congress and the administration. We could see a Stalingrad-magnitude conflict, or perhaps GOP members will become puppydogs (and earmark hounds) who roll over to avoid the controversy. Either way, this could administer a huge Tea Party booster shot.
Gridlock will limit new spending programs, but also means no real change to policies already in place (i.e. Obamacare), which will cause tremendous Tea Party frustration and anger. They will try, but will Republicans succeed in channeling all of that against Democrats and Obama?
Republican members and caucuses inevitably will do some foolish, cynical and faithless things that will let President Obama make them the issue in 2012, just as President Clinton did in 1996.
Among other things, this creates the potential for a Perot-type third candidate in 2012 - and an Obama second term...

I would add: Eliminate the Department of Education and return **all** of these education matters to the states.
On the state level: Republicans should work to begin the process of making education an entirely **PRIVATE** issue with complete separation of school and state.
That is exactly right, Gaffer.
Obama is actually one of the best things that's happened to this country in the last hundred years. He's jolted the people awake to the destruction of their country, and got them marching in the streets to set the country back to its founding basics.
This is as dumb a statement as saying Rush will retire if a Republican takes the White House.
I think that is a great start.
It is the DOING that I get hung up on.
They seem to lack the ‘fire in the belly’ willingness to ‘do or die.’
You are just trying to help Democrats.
Here’s a hint: Socialism doesn’t work.
You are bashing Reagen on being for being for big government . That is a huge laugh and moderators should ban you for that because that is slander and ridiculous as no one was more for reducing the size of government than Reagan.
Either you are a democrat or a brainwashed puppet of the liberal media.
You and your liberal media want us to forget that Reagan had a democrat congress opposing him.
Agreed.
Bush 43 ran on giving homeschoolers a tax break for the cost of their schooling materials each year.
That needs to happen as well.
“Bammy...and especially, ObamaCare have been the best things to hit DC since the New Deal. Neither is going anywhere-without a massive fight.
Let's hope the Republican party is reclaimed by honest patriots, who then bring about a resurgence we can all be proud of.
It's our job to throw the RINOs out of OUR party. We should not abandon it to them.
Ah, ME bash Reagan? He is still my hero.
But the PARTY NEVER DID GET RID OF THE NEWLY CREATED UNDER CARTER DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.
And education has SUFFERED ever since then. Nationally.
Learn some history before you mouth off to people who woke up during the Reagan era.
I would add another item:
**DEMAND** THAT OBAMA PROVE HIS NATURAL BORN CITIZENSHIP!!!
Sounds like the same dumb question that comes up every four years about Rush Limbaugh and conservative talk radio. “If the Republicans win, will conservative talk radio and Rush go away?” The answer was and still is NO.
If your 10 point plan were actually implemented, this country would undergo a resurgence that would go down in history.
Naturally, the Democrats would fight it every step of the way.
They will have their feet to the fire because no matter how anyone tries to twist the truth, the Tea Party will be held responsible when the GOP wins.
The country has a long way to go and their are still too many Rinos for my liking. One is one too many.
Reagan wasn’t a dictator. Reagan had the democrats who controlled Congress opposing him. Many of you have no idea how the U.S. government works , how economics work and so fall for all the liberal media lies one of which is meant to take away the advantage Republicans have on not being for big government as the socialists/democrats are.
My hope is that the tea party folks will START OUT holding R’s feet to the fire and never let the newbies forget why they were elected.
Colonel, USAFR
Also , if you take into account that politicians generally want to do something and doing something usually means more legislation , more government , and more taxes you can see that the Republican party is very good.
But no, many believe the liberal media spin that concentrates on the 15% of Republicans who are liberal and for bigger government.
Democrats/socialists created almost all of the thousands of government agencies.Anything that opposes these communists/socialists has to be supported
