Obama calling for more infrastructure spending

WASHINGTON (AP) - Vowing to find new ways to stimulate the sputtering economy, President Barack Obama will call for long-term investments in the nation's roads, railways and runways that would cost at least $50 billion.

The infrastructure investments are one part of a package of targeted proposals the White House is expected to announce in hopes of jump-starting the economy ahead of the November election. Obama will outline the infrastructure proposal Monday at a Labor Day event in Milwaukee.

While the proposal calls for investments over six years, the White House said spending would be front-loaded with an initial $50 billion to help create jobs in the near future.

The goals of the infrastructure plan include: rebuilding 150,000 miles of roads; constructing and maintaining 4,000 miles of railways, enough to go coast-to-coast; and rehabilitating or reconstructing 150 miles of airport runways, while also installing a new air navigation system designed to reduce travel times and delays.

There is an extremely touching and inspirational story from many years ago involving a group of North Korean Christians and “Nearer My God to Thee”.

Is that what you’re referring to?

Some counties in CA are digging up asphalt roads and going back to gravel....has lower maintenance costs..

In any case...why we need all this infrastructure...we all going to be riding around on Al Bore's wooden bicycles...

That's ridiculous! They'll be recycled plastic bicycles - wood is sacred.

Problem is...plastics are from petrochemicals....and there is no electricity to run the recycling plants...much less materials to build any.

Yeah, but these are "recycled plastics" so it's all okay. The electricity will be generated from bio-diesel made from rendered-down conservatives and other political opponents.

9. Mice, Alcohol and Drugs ($38,000): Studying the impact of alcohol and methamphetamines on mice and rats.

So, the only project that has actual tangible benefits gets barely any funding at all, while other projects that are nothing more than make-work for the purpose of making it look like something was actually done for the money get millions.

Typical of liberals: no real understanding of how the real world works, and no desire to understand, either, in the quest to try to make it work differently and thereby achieve utopia.

If anyone is wondering how studying addiction in rodents is a worthwhile endeavor, the premise behind such a project is that the process leading to addiction can be studied in a controlled population, with the long term goal of understanding the biological basis behind such addictions in order to develop effective therapies. It is common to use animal models to understand human disease.

In states with Dim governors, the governor’s name is on the board as well, with images of the states DOT logo on it. In Illinois, Patrick Quinns name appears on all of the boards. Here in WI, Jim Doyle’s name appears on it.

You’re right. The anti-capitalist puppet shows, funded by our dirty capitalist money, definitely take the cake.
