In a major upset, Sen. Lisa Murkowski has conceded her GOP Senate primary race to Tea Party Express favorite Joe Miller, who had the backing of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
"I don't see a scenario in which the primary will turn out in my favor," Murkowski said in her concession speech.
Murkowski made the concession speech Tuesday night, a full week after the primary.
Miller has never held elected office but he is now the immediate front-runner in the heavily Republican state.
Murkowski trailed Miller, a Fairbanks attorney, by 1,668 votes after last week's primary. Election officials began counting absentee and outstanding ballots Tuesday. Murkowski made slight gains, but was never able to get Miller's lead below 1,200 votes.

Miller is a shoo in.
I couldn’t believe it so I checked my bookmarked Anchorage news site and...
God Bless Joe Miller and God Bless Alaska!
(I have wanted to live there for a very long time.)
Let me be the first to offer a pat on the back and an olive branch to Lisa for a gracious concession. She could have dragged this out a lot longer, but she’s doing the right thing by conceding now before further acrimony develops.
I heard so much crap about ‘what could the Tea Party do’ to make change besides stand around and protest.
Now we know.
I’m surprised Drudge hasn’t picked it up yet!
The very fact that she is not even waiting for all the absentee ballots to be counted or asking for a recount (which she could do with a margin this narrow) is a strong indication that she’s seen the light. Miller would be wise to call her, thank her, ask for her support and leave the door open for future cooperation.
Flush the Grand Old Potty. Vote Conservative.
Wow!
I say Wow!
Drudge has been off his game lately. Is he tired? On vacation?

Yes. I was disappointed in the Tea Party Express press release. Rubbed salt in the wounds. Nothing good comes of that—unless the wounds are in progressives.
Why did she wait a week to concede? That was not classy at all.
I’m glad it’s over and we learned more about how elections might be stolen.
There were 20k outstanding ballots on a lead of 1600. Personally, I would have continued counting until all the absentees were done until the lead minus the recount margin was unassailable. This would have taken Murkowski all the way into the 2k disputed ballots, assuming that the absentees didn’t increase Miller’s margin.
It’s nothing about being classy, but everything about counting every ballot. I would say the same if it were Miller down, and Murkowski who had been up by the same margins. Too many times have Republicans quit too soon.
Had Miller won by say 5000, then it’s a different story. The recount margin then would be 4000 votes on 20k outstanding. Unlikely to hit the threshold. Still, I would probably have conceded on Friday afternoon even with a 5k margin against me.
LOL...the old mossbacks in the GOP of AK are taking it on the chin from Sarah one last time. They thought they’d gotten rid of her when she left office. Looks like the boys took their victory lap a little prematurely....
