Recently I noted a very troubling blame America first and Islamic apologist trend from Libertarians to the point where I could place a statement from an author of a Libertarian article and one from Obama side-by-side and challenge others to guess the originator of the statement. It was not as easy as one might suspect.
I expect this type of behavior from liberals and probably should not be surprised that Libertarians hold these views, but the uptick or increase in chatter on various Libertarian sites is troubling. Some cases exist where Libertarians are quite literally in quasi-celebratory mode at the perceived permanent diminution of American power. Such thinking is nonsense, defeatist, and outright dangerous. It ignores American exceptionalism and particularly ignores human nature and geopolitical realities. Ill reserve other descriptors for those who think this way for such a time when my self-control is a little less under control, and right now I am exercising great restraint. One author of a very influential Libertarian site uses a DHS report to attempt to make the case there are only 150,000 terrorists tops in the world. This is the same DHS that labels Libertarians and others who believe in limited government as potential terrorists. Remember that 150,000 terrorists as a high end estimation. If you want what their smoking, your not alone. Go figure.

Other than Ron Paul, which Libertarian blamed America first?
This is already a great article and I haven’t even finished reading it yet
Anybody listening to Jason Lewis these days would wonder if he is on the Hamas payroll.
blame America first
... so lets blame America for the Christian crusades...from a western perspective and

for a eastern perspective.
I do not think blaming of America works for the issues of imperialistic islamic expansion covering the last 1400 years.
Somehow it just doesn’t fit.
The fact is that libertarians and Marxists marched hand in hand back during the days of the 60s counter-culture movement.
The counter-culture was to a degree a hybrid of libertarian and Marxist ideals.
Marxists needed a way to bridge the gap between traditional American conservatism and themselves and Libertarian ideals served as that bridge.
So it is no suprise to hear very similiar rhetoric coming from both the libertarians today and the progressive Marxists.
The libertarians I know seem to be fiscally in line with Conservatives but socially in line with Liberals. I used to think I was Libertarian until I heard them actually speak. Then I realized that most of them refuse to figure human nature into the equation.
Bump for the truth.
The libertarian party has been overwhelmed by anti-war and legalize-it-at-any cost lefties.
These are the same lefties that voted for the so-called limited government stance of one Barrack Obama.
Austin is loaded with these posers who have no idea what the word LIBERAL actually means.
bump for later read
Great read — good idea!
I call BS!
Just look at the tenure of Bill Clinton. There was the first WTC bombing, and Bill treated that like a criminal case and tried it in court. Did he do anything about the threat of Islamic crazies like Al Qaeda? No. Bin Laden then bombed embassies in Africa, which got him the stern reaction of the FBI putting him on the top 10 most wanted list. Take that Osama! (At least Clinton did fire a couple of missiles in this one.) And even after shooting missiles at him, suggesting that Clinton knew he couldn't be allowed to live, when the President was offered bin Laden by Sudan he turned him down! And when he was spotted by drones in Afghanistan Clinton take advantage of the opportunity. And then of course there was the Cole attack, and weak response to it. I won't even mention the fact that during all these periods, and continuing to today, we have restricted as much drilling for oil as is possible in our own reserves, forcing the American people to fund Islamic nations who help foment these actions and the people who perpetrate them.
Time after time this nation, under the leadership of our duly elected President, refused to do what had to be done in regard to both Islam and Al Qaeda. Whose fault is that? Whose policies were to blame in these instances? It is sad to have to say it, but in fact America is at fault for the things that happened after all these failures to act decisively, though we didn't deserve it and it we didn't ask for it. Our policies let us down, over and over, and that seems quite blameworthy to me.

Every FReepin’ liberaltarian here at Free Republic for starters.
I’ve been on the many and recent Ron Paul threads where he claimed Islam is not the enemy. And I’ve challnged every lib who showed up to denounce that claim.
None of them will.
Glenn Beck did. Jon Stewart used the clip on his show.
Do they have the right to build their Mosque where they want too?
Yes, as long as they own the land or the rights granted (i.e property rights) to do so.
Should they? - Of couse not.
My position as a conservatarian has been consistent.
Do I have the right to pay for and manage my health care without Govt interference into my property rights? - yes.
Do I have the right to own Gold? - Yes
sigh.
Thank you for proving my point. When I said libs believe we are not at war with Islam, Perdogg agrees.
(Islam is a religion...) How wrong and naive you are.
Islam is not just a religion, it is a cult. Larger than that though, it is a political system, it is its own government, its judicial...is in its sharia, and its military (jihadis) all rolled into one with one intent ...and that is to rule wherever they take root. It is a invasive, systemic infection looking to take over the host once it has quantum.
This is not just a religion, but something that cloaks itself in those terms so it should not be given the same treatment contemplated under the first amendment. The Korans Sharia rules are to consume whatever government there is wherever it goes.
It is political, and its goal is to supplant and replace.
Oh. I guess - like your boy Ron Paul - you support the GZ mosque also.
Ron Paul has never been and will never be my boy. I am not a libertarian. I believe in National Defence. I have stated all my beliefs on FR since I joined 6 years ago, do the research.
Do the research?
Are you for real? I DID my research. From YOUR FReep page.
“too libertarian to be a social conservative”
Dude. YOU are a textbook definition of a liberal.
what else did I say? You should work for the New York Times
Conservatarian - Too conservative to be a libertarian, too libertarian to be a social conservative. NEVER ever in a million years a liberal.
