Digg critics allege vast right wing conspiracy [FreeRepublic mentioned]
TG Daily ^ | August 6, 2010 | Starr Keshet

Posted on 08/26/2010 1:41:13 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

AlterNet is claiming that it has uncovered a "widespread campaign of censorship" executed by a group of "influential" conservative and right-wing Digg members.

The site - which defines itself as a viable "alternative to the commercial media onslaught" - refers to Digg as both a "behemoth" and a "powerhouse."

"The [Digg] model [makes] it very susceptible to external gaming whereby users from certain groups attempt to push their viewpoint or articles to the front page to give them traction," claimed senior news editor "Oleoleolson."

"But the inverse of this effect is more devastating, as Bury brigades could effectively remove stories from the upcoming sections by collectively burying them."

According to Oleoleolson, a nefarious conservative group known as the "Digg Patriots" is so "organized and influential" that it is capable of burying over 90% of articles within 1-3 hours.

"This group is the heart of a complicated web on various networks, including Twitter, Propeller, StumbleUpon, YouTube and Facebook, all dedicated to ramming an extreme right wing viewpoint down the throats of those communities and censoring opposing viewpoints," he alleged.

"This includes such means as cyber stalking, bullying and terror. There is also a heavy contingent active on the ultraconservative FreeRepublic."

Oleoleolson - who described the Digg Patriots as "Teabagging wingnuts" - also accused the group of "loving to hate."

"They hate Obama. They hate progressives. They hate the UN, diplomacy, and peace/disarmament efforts. They hate reforms of health care, Wall St., and immigration. They hate science, in fact many are creationists.

"They hate the secular nature of our nation. They hate environmental protection, unions and any attempt to level the playing field to give all Americans economic opportunities. They hate abortion rights. They hate public schools and really hate higher education."

Unsurprisingly, Digg reacted cautiously to AlterNet's rather hysterical charges, saying only that it had begun an investigation of the allegations.

"[We are] focused on launching digg v4, but we're looking into this," Digg spokesperson Kevin Rose confirmed in a Twitter post.

When pressed for additional details, a Digg PR rep told TG Daily "that's all we are saying for now."

Americans in general disagree with the left's agenda once they see it for what it is (and not behind the “entertainment" and “news” media smokescreen).

It wouldn't take a “conspiracy for Americana's to overwhelmingly reject the left’s Internet propaganda.

Typical

They set up the rules of the game.
People play by the rules and exploit the weakness in the game and win over the liberals.
Then they cry about the very same rules that they set up.

Hmmm. This sounds suspiciously like how an FR blog pimper might describe the behavior of Pablo, who is very wily?

I was “warned” for “hate speech” by posting facts about the arab-Israel conflict. I just stopped posting.

I assume Israel, in particular, is a hot-button item.

I undertand most of the prime investors are arabs.

They are angry that some conservatives are doing what they’ve always done and what they established the service to do (hype the agenda items they agree with and bury the news that they don’t want seen).

It’s long been a tactic of those on the Left to spin the news on Yahoo et al.

They got mad that some FReepers are doing likewise.

Never is there a news item on DUping the public, or DUmping on polls, or even ISLAMming polls with an internet campaign to flood the results. Nope, it’s only ever about “FReeping”.

Gets tiresome to see them deny the obvious.

See also Amazon (and other) book reviews of political books. How else could an Ann Coulter book get 500 5-star reviews and 500 1-star reviews weeks before the book is even released?

They says Conservatives “love to hate”.

What emotion did they have when railing about George Bush non-stop? Liberals and Progressives love to hate IMO.

I just got tired of Digg and stopped going there. It bored me.

Digg has an up or down voting function for the lead article and comments just like Youtube. People use it. What a revelation!

Let's see how this looks turned around:
--------------

"They hate Bush. They hate conservatism. They worship the murderous, corrupt UN, false diplomacy, and any nation having a strong defense. They hate defenders of the health care system, Wall St., and legal immigration. They hate anybody's God, in fact many are atheists.

"They hate the founding of our nation on Godly principles. They love confiscating private property for 'environmental protection', thug unions and every attempt to level the playing field to give all Americans economic opportunities to other people's wealth. They love abortions and forcing them on everybody. They hate private schools and really hate private higher education."

Exactly. When they start whining about how mean we are, it's time to ratchet it up a tick. Ignore the emotional finger pointing and blast them back. Don't take a defensive stance and argue about how we're not mean. Just attack. If they're complaining about that, it means that we're being effective.

I was on Digg when they first started getting big.

THEN, Katie Couric did some synergistic early adopter video with them, total fluff. But, Digg started banning people right and left for commenting on her post.

That is when I deleted my account and went back to Slashdot.

"Hate" is such a strong term. But not strong enough to express how I feel toward those things...

Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

It almost looks like it could have been written by Jimmie, but then again, Jimmie couldn't put that many words together into two coherent, "English as a first language" sentences.

I miss Jimmie.

Yes, and another thing, we’re not ultraconservative. We are the middle, and they are so far to the left, they’re over the horizon. It’s Jim Quinn’s Law of the Misplaced Middle.

They control some of the media and pretend what they don’t control doesn’t exist. They say that their policies and normal and natural and that ours are radically right. It’s another myth we have to bust by countering their propaganda with the truth.
